Melat Baraki, an MCX sales associate who did the right thing. Melat had the opportu-nity to do something extraordinary one day at work when she found a ring: she turned it in to Lost and Found. With no identifying markings on the ring, it was held for the allotted time before being donated to the Fort Myer Thrift Shop. The thrift shop placed the ring in their safe and had it appraised. It appraised for $14,000!
The ring stayed in their safe until a Thrift Shop employee noticed a bulletin from law enforcement. The employee alerted the manager, and Criminal Investigation Division (CID)was contacted. The photo in the bulletin was a match for the one in the safe, and the owner and ring were re-united! For her honesty and integrity in turning the ring in, Melat was awarded 15% of its value.
Melat was given the award at a ceremony on December 19 in the Marine Corps Exchange. Her director and a representative of the command presented her with a “check” for $2,100 and thanked her for her honesty.

Q. Does Smith Gym offer group exercise classes?A. Yes, we do! Among our current class offerings are Zumba® and Spin.
Q. Do you offer HITT?A. Yes, we do! Our HITT Program is open only to active duty personnel and Marine reservists, by Marine Corps Order. Instructor-led classes are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, we offer Open-Gym HITT.
Q. Who teaches your classes?A. Gym staff and the MCCS Marines teach the HITT
classes, and our other group exercise classes are taught by contract instructors. Anyone who is certified as a HITT
instructor may teach a HITT class for his or her unit.
Q. Where can I find out the schedule?A. It’s on our webpage, www.mccsHH.com/SmithGym.html.
Q. Do you publish a monthly calendar of classes?A. We no longer publish a monthly calendar due to the fluidity of our class schedules.
Q. How can I find out when the classes are, then?A. Our most current schedule is on our webpage. However, we add or delete exercise options as instructors are available, and, when we do, we will update the webpage with the new schedule.
Q. What about last-minute changes?A. Please like mccsHH on Facebook, where we post updates in advance. To ensure that a class is taking place, call the gym front desk at 703-614-7214. As our instructors are contractors and occasionally must cancel, the front desk will have the most up-to-date information.
