January 2013 The
Hardy
Heartline
We’re the Church with a Warm Heart
In January, I always find myself trying to re-prioritize. Generally, this process ends with me
counting the number of hours I dedicate toward one responsibility or another. The conclusion
tends to be the same: I should spend more time on my knees in prayer, more time being Holy, more time with family, more time dreaming about the future, and less time... Well, that’s the
problem, isn’t it?
Where do I take all this time that I am supposed to be living better when there are so many demands upon every waking moment, and let’s face it, I would rather be sleeping just a little
more. How am I supposed to fit God into all of that?!?
Sam Ewig, a famous writer, once said, “It’s not the hours you put in your work that counts. It’s the work you put in the hours.” Sam might be onto something. How much work are we giving to God, to our family, to the
ways that God has called us to serve? Let me quote another famous author who, when
approached by Satan encouraging him to worship him and rule the world, replied:
“It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.”
Jesus tells us to worship nothing else. Jesus tells us to have no separation between who we are and the God we worship. How much of God are we putting into our hours?
Christianity is not a wedge of our pie. It defines who we are in all things: our family, our
prayer life, our work ethic, staying fit as God’s Temple. So, I don’t know how much it belongs as an item on our January prioritization list. How much God are we putting into our
hours? Is there anything else that is taking its place?
Jesus’ love towards his Father defined his relationships, his role in the world, his family, where
he went, and how he lived. All of this took place because of how he worshiped God alone. That leaves me with really one question in 2013: How am I being like Jesus?
Grace and Peace, Preston

Another year is upon us and many of us will examine our lives and make resolutions on how we think we can improve ourselves and
our situation. This is probably a good practice for us to have. After all, Socrates once said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.”
But, as believers, do we have anything different that we should consider? Are we just like everyone else with our resolutions, e.g. lose
weight, spend more time with family, read more books, watch less TV, etc?
In Psalm 89 in The Message version we find these words, “Your love, God, is my song, and I’ll sing it! I’m forever telling everyone how
faithful you are! I’ll never quit telling the story of your love...” Those words struck me as I was thinking about a new year and what I
needed to do to be a better person. Do these words hold true in my life...in yours? Are we telling the story of God’s love to those
around us? I consider myself and think there are moments where I could tell the story better, more effectively, with more compassion.
We’ve been given a wonderful gift in Jesus and the Psalm writer reminds us that it is a story worth telling. We will all tell a story this
new year...what will yours be?
NOTES
I wonder how many times the words “New Year” will appear in your life over the next few weeks? Don’t try to count. You’ll go crazy!
But since we’re talking about a new year and new resolutions, here’s a thought...why not come and sing in Hardy’s Chancel Choir?
Since we’ve grown so much over the past couple of years, we are sure to have some singers out there who could contribute to our
choir. It’s a lot of fun and it’s a wonderful group of people who meet together every Wednesday at 7:00 to share music, love, and
laughter. Plus, when you join the choir you get one of the best seats in the house! Please prayerfully consider joining us and being a
part of this group in 2013...we would love to have you!
Blessings Micah

“LID” at Hardy
LID (Love in Deed) is a new program at Hardy designed to meet the many concerns of our church family.
This team is now seeking volunteers from those of you who love to serve others and wish to help with their
needs. Our main focus will be accomplished in the following ways:
By providing a meal for families who have lost loved ones.
By providing a “goody” bag for family members who have loved ones in the hospital for an extended
stay.
By providing a basket or meal for families who have just welcomed a new baby into their family.
Volunteers may help by preparing a dish for a funeral or by helping with baskets. Making the
deliveries to families or helping to serve a meal will also provide an opportunity to serve. Because
our LID team will involve several volunteers, no one person will be expected to do everything.
If you would like to serve on this team, please contact Lynda Poore, who is the coordinator of the program.
Lynda may be reached at home at 903-832-1809 or by leaving a message in the church office
at 903-793-1116.
