5DEVELOPING NEW LEADERSBy Matt Kump, Youth Director

The teen club has recently implemented a plan for youth development to help create young leaders within the Chambersburg YMCA. To do this, Matthew Kump - the director leading teen club - formed an officer committee of five elected Teen Club youth to work with him in planning the group’s future activities. YMCA Teen Club participants engage in leadership training sessions after school. To kick off their training, the youth watched the motivational video “The Power of One.” To exemplify positive influence for their peers, The YMCA wanted the youth to elect those they trusted to lead them: those they knew would make good decisions based upon behavior and character, not just popularity. These students are encouraged to accept responsibility and have ownership of the Y’s Teen Club program. Together the teens manage the snack bar, conduct weekly meetings, and make decisions for group activities and events. Have your teen join today!

YOU’VE GOTA GREAT HEARTCardio Capture & Corporate ChallengeFebruary 9 & 11, 2013

At the Chambersburg Memorial YMCA, we believe our success is measured by the lives we touch. That’s why we pledge to continue to keep Sam Kessinger’s dream a reality.

For over 50 years the Y’s Sam’s Program has been supported by local community members to provide opportunities to the youth in our community. The Partners with Youth Campaign is the funding that provides quality staff, transportation, healthy snacks, and character development with a Christian emphasis in a safe nurturing environment at the Y.

On February 9th you and your coworkers or friends

can be a part of this cause. The Corporate Challenge is a fun event for a team of four individuals to come together and compete in various leisure games such as corn hole,

shuffle board, ladder ball and pickle ball. However the real competition is in the amount of funds raised to support your team’s contributions to the Partner’s with Youth Campaign.

Cardio Capture is an individual event that also takes place on February 9th as well as February 11th, 2013. This event is similar to a “walk-a-thon” however takes place on a piece of cardio equipment in the Y’s fitness center. Participants collect pledges for completing an hour workout for the cause.

We know you’ve got a great heart so contact the Y or email [email protected] for more information on how you can help!

7OPEN HOUSE DRAWINGHere at the Y, we have a “try it before you buy it” policy, allowing potential members to experience our outstanding facilities before they commit to a membership. To help spread the word, we’re asking members to hand out our cards to friends, family, coworkers, or even strangers that you believe would benefit from coming to the Y.

By giving a friend our card, it serves as a reminder to come in and visit. These cards give your friend three free visits to the Y (Chambersburg only). Did you know by referring a friend for a new membership you can receive a free month at the Y? See the front desk for more details.

Finally, any member that has a friend redeem the Y’s business card in the month of January will be entered in a drawing for a $50 Ruby Tuesday’s gift card on February 3rd during our Open House. Help the Y build our community by picking up your Y business cards at the front desk today!
