Fraternal Survey Due Jan. 31 is the deadline for submitting the 2012 Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity (#1728). Insist that your coun- cils complete the form, found on the Order’s website or in the Council Report Forms Booklet (#1436). Strive to have 100 percent of the councils in your district reporting before the deadline. Remember, the survey covers the 2012 cal- endar year, not the fraternal year. If you have dormant or inactive councils in your district, submit the form yourself, note that the council is not func- tioning, sign it as DD and send it in. The survey may be faxed to the Department of Fraternal Services at 203-752- 4108, mailed to the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Office, Department of Fraternal Services, 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven, CT 06510-3326, or filed online at kofc.org/forms Semi-Annual Council Audit The semiannual audit of the books and records of the fi- nancial secretary and treasurer is an important part of a district deputy’s duties. The audit, due Feb. 15, covers the period from July 1 through Dec. 31, 2012. You are responsible for making certain that the financial accounts of the councils in your district are kept in accor- dance with the laws of the Order. Schedule appointments to inspect the books, vouchers and accounts of each coun- cil in your district. District Meetings Here are some things to consider as you plan your dis- trict meeting: District Deputy Reminder January 2013 On October 11, 2012, the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council and the 20th anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI opened the Year of Faith. It ends on the Feast of Christ the King on Nov. 24, 2013. In inaugurating the celebration, the Holy Father said in part: “Faith without charity bears no fruit, while charity without faith would be a sentiment constantly at the mercy of doubt. Faith and charity each require the other in such a way that each allows the other to set out along its respective path.” (Porta Fidei, 14) Celebration of the Year of Faith is made to order for the Knights of Columbus. For that reason, district deputies are asked to encourage each of their councils to participate in the Council Action Plan for the Year of Faith. The plan covers four major areas: Faith Professed, Faith Lived, Faith Celebrated and Faith Prayed. These are explained fully in the pamphlet being sent to all grand knights and on the website kofc.org/yearoffaith. To encourage councils to join in celebrating the Year of Faith, the Supreme Council has developed a special incentive program. District deputies are being asked to promote it to their councils. Mailings on the program have been sent to each jurisdicition for their mid-year meetings and are being sent to each council Any council completing at least one item in each of the areas cited above will receive a print of the Holy Family icon (shown at right). It may displayed in the council chamber, presented to the council chaplain or given any council member who has been instrumental in promoting the Year of Faith celebration. Available celebration aids include the Year of Faith pamphlet (#10085), the Year of Faith Prayer Booklet (#10083), a Year of Faith Prayer Card (#10086) and the Year of Faith Report Form (#10084). The items are available in English, Spanish and French. There is no charge for the Year of Faith pamphlet. The first 100 Year of Faith Prayer Cards (#10086) ordered by councils will be provided at no charge. Subsequent Prayer Card orders will be filled at a cost of $3.00 per hundred. The first 100 Year of Faith Prayer Booklets (#10083) will be provided free of charge. Subsequent orders will be filled at the rate of $5.00 per 100 booklets. Council orders for materials should be sent to: Year of Faith, Department of Fraternal Services, 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven CT 06510, e-mailed to [email protected], or faxed to 203-752-4108. Family of the Month

The structure of the family is built on strength, faith andlove. Strength comes from a bond of togetherness, experi-ence and respect for one another. Families build a strongfoundation of faith as they pray, attend Mass and spendtime together. The Supreme Council encourages every council to par-

ticipate in the Order’s “Family of the Month” program. Totake part a council selects a member and his family as its“Family of the Month” using the guidelines explained in theFamily of the Month booklet (#1993) provided in eachcouncil’s “Surge …with Service” kit.Items that your committee should look for (but not be re-

stricted to) in their selections are:

• Has the family made significant contributions to theChurch, community, and/or council?

• Does the family get along?• Does the family share experiences?• Does the family communicate openly and hon-estly?

• Does the family pray and attend Mass together?

After having chosen a family, complete and submit thecorresponding monthly form from the Family of the Month.A copy of this form is also available online atwww.kofc.org/forms. These forms are sent to the SupremeCouncil office. On the 15th day of each month 100 Familyof the Month reporting forms are randomly selected andthe families chosen receive a Holy Family plaque. The Supreme Council offers a Family of the Month certifi-

cate (#1843) for councils to present to their winners. Cer-tificates are available at a cost of 25 cents each from theSupreme Council Supply Department. Financial Secre-taries should use Requisition Form 1 to order. Conductinga Family of the Month Program counts as an activity in theFamily section of the Columbian Award Application Form(#SP7).
