    Welcome&PresidentsReport:Kimreviewedthefollowing:

    *DecemberwasabusytimefortheLupincommunity.Thankyoutoroomparentsforallthe

    extradutiesandforcontinuingtomotivateallparentstovolunteerastheyareable.

    *Matt Heller of the City of Calabasas Parks, Recreation and Education Commission has

    announcedthattheyhavefundstodonatetoCalabasasschoolsforindividualclassroomneeds.

    Kimiscompilingalisttosubmitforfundsandrequestedinputfromclassroomteachers .Ms.

    Mizrahivolunteeredtohelpcoordinate.Kimalsowarnedthattheschooldistrictwillmostlikely

    cut school funds yet again and the PFC may be asked to provide more funding. The PFC

    currently funds approximately $15,000 towards supplies budget. Parents noted that other

    schoolsrequestmoremoneyperstudentduringtheirdonationdrives.Kimnotedthatshehas

    thisdata.

    CommitteeReports:

    FamilyScienceNight isscheduledforThursday,January19 from6:30-8:30inHeesHall.Some

    oflastyearsfavoriteactivitieswillbeavailabletogetherwithseveralnewexhibits.Flyerswill

    becominghomeandstudentswillRSVPthroughtheirclassrooms.CampCalabasaswillofferscience based activities for siblings 3-5 years old as children under 5 are not permitted to

    attendtheactualevent.Kimwillchecktoseeifthisisadropoffserviceornot.

    KimreportedthattheBear-A-Thonwasabigsuccess.285bearswillbemadeastheresultof

    Lupindonationsoncethestuffingmachineisrepaired.OlderLupinstudentswillhelpwiththis

    process and 250 of the bearswill travel around theworldwith the Smile Train.Great job,

    Lupin!

    FebruaryFamilyDanceswillbechairedby JacqueGrahamandheldonFebruary10th&11

    th.

    The theme for the danceswill besports. Volunteers are needed and can contact Jacque at

    [email protected],Jacque!

    MattFreeman reportedthatLupinsFamilyRestaurantNights havebeenverysuccessfulthis

    year.Havingchoicesinrestaurantsonthesamenighthasbeenaplus.JVsnettedover$300

    recentlywhileIslandsnettedover$200.Parentsreportedthatthesocializingislotsoffun,too.

    BoxTopscollectioncontinuestobreakrecords.SteveRifkinreportedthatthereisaclassroom

    contestcurrentlyrunningforthemostboxtopscollected/earned.Steveencouragedalltosign

    upfortheGrowingLocalLearning(linkisinTigerTidbits)andtomakeanyonlinepurchases

    (including Valentineflowers) throughtheBoxTopMarketplace toearnextra points/dollars.

    Westfieldreceiptsshouldalsobeturnedintotheboxinthefrontoffice.Lupinreceivesdouble

    pointsforJanuaryreceipts.

    LisaHeller reportedthatthe5thGradeCommitteeisgoingstrong.Therewasagoodturnout

    fortheHugomovieoutingwith100ticketsbeingsold.Apajama/bagel/hotcocoabreakfastis

    beingplannedforFriday,January27 thfrom7:30.-8:00am.Otherplannedeventsincludeagirls

    night out, a boys night out and an end of year celebration. Formore info or to volunteer

    CarnivalCommitteehasmetonce.Thecarnivalisscheduledfor Sunday,March25.Kimwill

    checkwithAngeliquetodeterminethenextmeetingdate.Raffledonationsareneededfrom

    families.Staytunedformoreinfo.

    Student Green Team continues to meet on Wednesday mornings and is focusing on air

    pollution this month. Leila and Bonnie reported that they met with city officials and are

    workingonaplan tomake comprehensive recycling a school districtpolicy asLupin trained

    MiddleSchoolstudentsreportwantingtocontinuetheWasteFreelunchpolicy.Thanks,Green

    Team!

    The Jog-A-Thonwill be held Friday, January 25th. A t-shirt design contest is underway and

    sponsorsareneededforthet-shirts.MoreinfowillbecominghomeinFridayfolders.

    TeachersReport:

    Ms.Mizrahi reportedthatstudentshavebeenverywellbehavedwiththeexceptionofafew

    minor mishaps and that the anti-bullying program seems to have increased awareness of

    responsible behavior in students. She reported that Lupins low-key approach to classroom

    celebrationsseemstobeworkingnicely.Studentshavealsobeeninvolvedwithseveralservice

    projectsincludingcollectingNickelsforNails(HabitatforHumanity)inthe3 rdgradeandsewing

    scarves for people in a homeless shelter. Other service projects are being researched and

    considered.ClassroomscontinuetotakeadvantageofthefreebusprovidedbyDurhamBusCompanyforfieldtripseachmonth.Thankyou,DurhamBusCompany!

    Ms.MizrahialsoreportedthatMs.Sank isrequesting fundingfor4th grade studentscience

    programswhilethe5thgradersareatoutdooreducationweek.Thesciencekitsrequestedare

    from the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountain Conservancy and

    includeaseriesofhandsonactivities(modelsofthewatershed,playingafoodwebgame,

    usingmicroscopestoseeplankton,testingthePHofcommonproducts)thatengage4learning

    modalities(visual,auditory,kinesthetic,tactile).

    MinuteandBudgetApproval:

    Lastmonthsminutesandbudgetwereunanimouslyapprovedforposting.

    NewBusiness:

    Raz Bolourian reported that studentArt Cardswill be made this year; the project will be

    coordinatedwithMichelleYoung.Moreinfowillfollow.Thanksforcoordinatingthis,Raz!

    Havingarafflingofacarorotherlargeitemwasdiscussedbrieflybutnodecisionsweremade

    regardingthis.
