In a final round featuring the top three lefties currently on Tour, Allen captured his ninth career Denny’s PBA Tour title and second this season with a 218-169 win over Parker Bohn III Sunday to win the 2007 Go RVing Classic at Thunderbowl. Allen took advantage of some uncharacteristic mistakes by the 30-time titlist and PBA Hall of Famer Bohn, who missed a 8- pin conversion in the 5th frame and left a 6-8 split and opened in the 8th frame to give the top- seeded Allen the breaks he needed. As the top seed, Allen ex- acted some revenge in steplad- der finals. The previous three times a top seed had won in the stepladder format, Allen was the victim in the title match includ- ing this season’s 2007 Dick We- ber Open where he fell to Jason Couch in the title match. “Parker bowled a good game even tough he shot 170. He only missed the pocket twice, but that open in the 8th frame was the real momentum-swinger,” Allen said. “Fortunately for me, I made a good ball change on the right lane and a marginal shot in the 9th carried and that was the dif- ference.” The fourth-seeded Bohn flagged the 7-pin in the 5th while Allen was working on a double. Allen threw his third consecu- tive strike in the 6th, but then made a crucial mistake of his own, leaving the 4-6-8-10 split and opening in the 7th. Bohn responded with a double but then left the 6-8 and opened, al- lowing Allen to clinch the match with a strike in the 9th frame. The win was Allen’s fourh in the last five events on the Cha- meleon pattern and fifth overall in his career. Bohn averaged 249 in win- ning the first three matches to advance to the title match. He defeated second-seeded Jason Couch, who was looking for his third title of the season, 245-193, in the semifinal. Bohn also de- feated third-seeded Riga Kalfas, 235-205, who was making his first career TV appearance, and fifth-seeded Mike Edwards, 267- 191. Allen (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) took home $25,000 for the win while Bohn (Jackson, N.J.) earned $13,000 for second. Couch (Clermont, Fla.) took home $6,500 for third, Kalfas (Florence, Ky.) earned $5,500 for fourth while Edwards (Tulsa, Okla.) earned $5,000 for fifth. The Denny’s PBA Tour heads to Parkersburg, W. BY NICE AND SWEET

12655 VENTURA BLVD.STUDIO CITY

818-769-7600 or 877-2380when you have time to spare

Greetings one and all!, Here I am again, with the weekly “best ofthe West report” (not bad for a name).

As usual, the players here have given me quite a bit to writeabout, and this week, we even have a 300 included (the 3rd of 2007)in our normal batch of good scores. So, let’s get this show on theroad!

CHRIS’ ANGELS: Wesley Price 216-238/631, Ed Matthews224-214/622, Clyde (Mr. Hat) Edmonds 247. Ladies: Bettie Banks200-202.

BALL & CHAIN: For the second week in a row, one of theladies led the way. This week Nancy Brown did the honors, postingscores of 275-223-221 for a nice 719 series. For those of us whoknow her know that this is not unusual for her.Big ups, Nancy!Others posting high scores fot the week were Marvin (XYZ) Vaughn220-257-216/693, Lee Hall 218-211-234/663, Jonathan Bradley 222-231/649, (Cool Moe)Reggie Smith 222-207-215/644, Mark Bruce257. Ladies: Pam (Mo Money) King 203-235/621 and Doris Tho-mas 213.

555 SCRATCH TRIO: Henry Coates 252-244/695, Guy David225-223-236/684, Robert (RMF) McFadden 209-241/640, DelIngram 202-220-204/628, Bill Cowens, Jr, 263-223/620. Ladies:Sylvia Hooks 220, Kim Cato 212.

D.P.S.S: If there was a “star of the week”, you need to look nofurther than Sam Bevans. His first two games were good (245-230),but his third game, he went “wall to wall” for his first 300 game, anda 781 series. Big ups, Sam! Other high scores were recorded by Mr.& Mrs. Brooks. Mr Brooks (William) fired a 279/659, and MrsBrooks (Michelle) wasn’t far behind her hubby with 257-225/653.(The family that bowls together...........), next was “Big Game” JamesMoore 231-223/650, Derrick James 211-237/640, Todd Austin 208-246/605, Pam (Mo Money) King 226-218.

Seniority Helps In Roadrunner TravelerGARDEN GROVE — Cheryl Huntington, manager of the Or-

ange County Bowling/USBC/Assn. and captain of the Forest Lanes’trio in the half century old Roadrunners Traveling League saysseniority does help members have fun bowling every noon Fridaysvisiting 13 USBC certified centers.

Well, the treasurer, Jenny Jones, is captain of the current leadYorba Linda trio. Over 10 years ago she carried a 169 average, nowa 164. Her teammates are Dot Barshe and Jill Arruna.

June Carr, an elder, brightens the team with a 90-game. Nowanchor/captain at 160, with Wanda Weaver and Judy Burroughsenjoy second place.

The loop’s president, Suzanne Kallemeyn, anchors 9th placeWestminster II. In the good old days, she was pleased with a perfectattendance 115 game, 174 average at Westminster. Pat Katapski andMurie Rehnke support the president.

Secretary Donna Craig, another perfect 115 game, 173 averageattender, keeps track of these “lively birds”. Probably has a stack ofOCBA annual average books; can occasionally check member’s lo-cal history. Donna can rely on fellow multi-league traveler/team-mates Pat Schonabaum and Dianne Proffitt.

The entire league played an important part collecting money forthe Bowlers Victory Legion (BVL) in 1991. They, Ramona Clark,Lorriane Beard, Marge Miyoda, Libby Buckley and Mrs. Hunting-ton, supported a drive giving our association national recognitioncollecting $36,425. In the ’90s the ABC gave Orange County creditfor collecting nearly $250,000.

Yes, they’re still doing it. Not the big numbers but very notice-able. All the BVL money went for items not furnished by the VA.During the years, 1949 thru 1951, the funds went for wheelchairs.

Following WWII the BVL funds went for recreation items in-cluding a pair of alleys which they still help maintain.

Along with the money, local associations, men and women, madepersonal visits to “push beds”. These visitors reported some of“our” money went for strange items, like washing machines, irons,

JAT Farm Clubby David Gordon

TORRANCE—After a longvacation the JAT Farm Club wasback in action at Palos Verdes Bowlthis past Sunday. Thirty-twobowlers took to the lanes givingus the maximum cut for matchplay. A new wrinkle (created byExecutive Director - Yamo), wasalso put into play, called the “JATClean 50”. Here the bowlers whosigned up for it had to bowl all fivequalifying games without an openframe. Let’s just say, better lucknext tournament.

In the qualifying round, thebowlers had a mixture of scoring.Almost everyone found one or twopairs to their liking, but struggledon the other lanes. The tourna-ment high game was put up bySteven Sensabaugh with a 257.Nice scoring Steven for this day.Other highs came in from AaronWilliams 233-248, Michael Foley243-233, Arisha Piper 238, ShaunMorad - DeeRonn Booker - RashadSandridge 237 each, Mark Curtis236-236, Kevin Jones 233-224,Justin Foster 233, Eric Kilgore232, Justin McCullin 225, BrentShern 224, Albert Fernandez 222,and Virgil Hilvano 222. Foley ledthe bowlers after five games at plus61, while just making the cut tooka minus 49.

In match play with a large jumpof twelve positions John McCullin

took over the lead behind gamesof 225-233-232. Now that’s theway to do it. Keeping pace withhighs was Curtis 227-242, Morad236, Aaron Steinberg 236,Sensabaugh 233.

The finals then got under waywith 5th seed Foley (+55) taking itto 4th seed Curtis (+68) 184-170.It’ll come Mark. Now Foley met3rd seed Steinberg (+74) and dis-posed of him 202-177.
