St. Patrick’s of Tekamah:

Stewardship Thoughts “We know that all things work for the good of those who love God, who are

called according to his purpose.” - ROMANS 8:28-

Do you really trust in God? Do you believe that all things work for good? Faith is a challenge for everyone at times. Putting our trust in God, in everything we do, means that God’s plan for our lives may be different than our plan. When one door closes, another one opens. Trust in God; His plan is always better. Children’s good deed: “I served at Mass; I helped put dishes on the table for dinner; I pulled weeds in the garden.”

To Be Like Jesus

O God, help us to be more like Jesus. Help us to bear

difficulty, pain, disappointment, sorrow, knowing that in your perfect working and design you can use such bitter experiences to shape our characters and make us more like our Lord. We look with hope for that day when we shall be wholly like Christ, because we shall see him as he is. Amen (St. Ignatius of Antioch))

♦♦Looking for a new challenge in your faith?♦♦ St. Patrick Rel. Ed is in need of teachers for the Religious Ed

Program. Contact Ashley Olson if you think this is something

you would be willing to try. The rewards are heavenly!

From Fr. Kevin… As Jesus explains in this Sunday’s Gospel

from St. Matthew, the Kingdom of Heaven is

an “all or nothing” venture. I have to be

willing to let go of all else to truly seek the

Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus uses the examples

of treasure and a “pearl of great price” to make

this point. The Kingdom of heaven is so

precious, of such value, and worth more than

anything else. It must be pursued with all of

one’s heart. No half measures, no half-

heartedness, no compromise can be allowed.

In the first reading from 1 Kings 3, we hear of

King Solomon asking God wholeheartedly in

a dream for the gift of an understanding

heart—really, for the gifts of wisdom and

discernment—in order that he may know how

to lead his people most effectively. Because

Solomon asks in humility and asks for what

will benefit his kingdom, God grants it. On the

cross Jesus offered his life so that all of

humanity could enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

We each need a grace in our lives to seek

what matters most to God. Peace, Fr. Kevin

FAITH FACT What is Parable?

A parable (from the Greek word parabole, to “throw together” things for comparison or illustration) is a short realistic story intended to encourage reflection by comparing the parable to our own life. Since one can connect the parable to various aspects of one’s life or that of one’s family or community, parables are open-ended in their application. Parables were a common teaching device of the Jewish rabbis and important to Jesus in his teaching, because the only way we have to talk about what is unfamiliar to us (God’s ruling presence of “kingdom”) is in terms that are familiar to us (our everyday life and world). Thus, parables challenge the hearers to think about their meaning and change their lives because of what they discover.

Six adults and six students are signed up! If you are going to St. Mary West Point on August 27th, you might meet in the St. Patrick parking lot a little before 1:00

to coordinate rides. If anyone needs a ride, please contact

the parish office. The Mandation Mass will be Wednesday

September 6th at 7:00 PM at St. Mary Norfolk or Thursday

September 7th at the Cathedral in Omaha.

The Lighter Side

THE NEW EMPLOYEE stood before the paper shredder looking confused. “Need some help?” a secretary, walking by, asked. “Yes,” he replied, “how does this thing work?’ “Simple,” she said, taking the fat report from his hand and feeding it into the shredder. “Thanks, but where do the copies come out?”

Looking Ahead: Religious Ed: Teachers Meeting

♣ Rel. Ed. Sign-up Sunday August 27th after Mass.
