In defense of Christ’s divinity, Hilary was not only eloquent in debate but utterly fearless in the face of relentless persecution and even exile. Thus by the witness of his own discipleship, Hilary taught that faith in Jesus as the divine Son of God has consequences. of the Lord

    THIS IS MY BELOVED SON

This Sunday’s celebration of the Baptism of the Lord closes

the Christmas season. In the scriptures we see one more

epiphany, or manifestation, of the Spirit of God in Jesus—but

this time it is as an adult, rather than as a child. Jesus’ baptism

also serves as the inauguration of his prophetic mission and the

    messianic age.

Today’s reading from Isaiah describes God’s chosen

Messiah, upon whom God’s spirit rests. In the Acts of the

Apostles Peter says that “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with

the Holy Spirit and power” (Acts 10:38). Finally, in the

proclamation from Matthew’s Gospel Jesus’ baptism in water

goes almost unnoticed. The crucial moment comes when the

Spirit of God comes upon Jesus and a voice from heaven echoes

the words of Isaiah: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am

    well pleased” (Matthew 3:17).

liturgy, prayer, education and outreach to those in need. We come together as a faith community

according to John, which portrays Jesus as the divine Logos,

against the Arians,” heretics who believed Jesus to be merely

human, not divine. In defense of Christ’s divinity, Hilary was

not only eloquent in debate but utterly fearless in the face of

relentless persecution and even exile. Thus by the witness of his

own discipleship, Hilary taught that faith in Jesus as the divine

Son of God has consequences. Reflecting on Jesus’ challenge to

Estamos buscando

    jóvenes católicos

    para ser consejeros

    de campamentos de

    verano. Los

    consejeros viven con

los campistas en un grupo pequeño

al aire libre. También son mentores

    de los campistas, proporcionan un

modelo positivo a seguir, ayudan a

    enseñar programas especiales (tiro

    con arco, naturaleza, artes y

    manualidades), lideran actividades

con los campistas y promueven una

    atmósfera católica positiva. La

    semana de entrenamiento comienza

el 7 de junio de 2020 y nuestra

temporada de verano termina el 16

de agosto de 2020. El personal de

    verano puede tomarse semanas

    libres durante el verano como

necesario y la tasa de pago comienza

en $ 442 por semana. Solicite hoy en

    www.pendola.org/employment.

    ¡Reserva!

    La mayoría de nosotros vivimos

vidas muy ocupadas, por lo que nos

tomamos el tiempo para marcar las

    cosas importantes (cumpleaños, días

    festivos, bodas, incluso citas

    médicas) en nuestros calendarios.

Hombres y Damas de la parroquia:

    saquen sus calendarios ahora y

tomen nota de estas fechas: del 14 al

16 de febrero para los hombres y del

21 al 23 de febrero para las mujeres.

    ¡Algo está sucediendo que NO

querrás perderte! A partir de ese

    viernes por la noche, disfrutaremos

de nuestro retiro anual para hombres

/ mujeres en el Centro de Retiros

Pasionistas Christ the King. El retiro

incluye tiempo para la reflexión y la

    oración, deliciosas comidas,

    oportunidades sacramentales, charlas

    esclarecedoras y una habitación

privada y baño para cada persona. El

    costo es de $ 230 individual / $ 210

    doble (hay becas disponibles). ¿No

puede ir ese fin de semana? ... vaya a

    christthekingretreatcenter.org y haga

clic en Retiros para ver otras

    opciones y más información. ¿Tiene

    preguntas sobre la experiencia del

retiro? Contacte a Margie Duey al
