Dear Friends, Yearly the priests of the Diocese gather with Bishop Muench for our Formation or Continuing Education days. We hold these days in various parts of the diocese or state to facilitate a priest being able to “get away” from the normal day to day and immerse himself in whatever the topic might be. These days are good for our Presbyteral morale and our staying up with the field of theology or psychology or ecclesiology or morality or whatever area is to be covered. This year the continuing ed days will be held in Natchez, Mississippi. Thus, I will be away for these days from Monday morning January 12- Thursday, January 15th. The Bishop has asked that if someone dies during these days, the funeral be scheduled after the formation days are completed. While I am away, contact the parish staff and someone can assist you. The Baptism of the Lord, celebrated today, concludes the season of Advent-Christmas, and now we enter the stretch of Ordinary or Ordinal Time, until Lent begins on February 18th. Yes, Lent is that close!! Five Sundays, the second through the sixth Sundays in Ordinary Time, and five weeks and the beginning of a sixth, provide us with an interim period in which we can reflect on the origins of our call to be a follower of Christ and what accepting the call means for the way we live in the world. Just like other times of the church year we focus on what God is doing in Christ, what God is doing in us and through the Church in the world. During the later days of January we will also focus on two major aspects of parish life. One is Catholic Schools Week and the registration for new and returning students at St. Jean Vianney School and Preschool. Both of our schools are important to our parish life. Our parish has made a major commitment to provide Catholic School Education and Religious Education through our Schools. You may note that our Catholic School is small, providing a learning environment that is unique in the attention being given to the student. Our School community operates with the Mission, Academic Excellence in a Catholic Community of Faith. Day by day with the faculty and administration, that Mission is lived out. Help spread that word and opportunity. If your children attended our Schools, recommend them to others. While there are many challenges today in providing education, our parish would not be what we are without both of our Schools growing in

We extend our sympathy to the following parishioners who recently lost a loved one:

To the family of Sara Palermo on the death of their loved one, Sarah Saucier.

LIFE TOGETHER wisdom, age and grace. Pray for this Education ministry and promote these gifts. Our annual January Financial Stewardship focus happens later in the month. There are many ways in which you can become a faithful financial steward-with the use of the weekly envelopes, automatic bank draft and credit card. Funding is not a word to be avoided in parish life. The Church parish exists because our parishioners for over 39 years, have provided the financial funding for the parish to thrive. We are currently seeing two building projects underway, through the Parish Capital Campaign. When I came to St Jean Vianney, I happily found that many people who had pledged to the church building fund had continued their pledge giving even though their pledges had technically “run out.” I would ask you to consider that act of generosity too. Let’s give together until the projects are completed and any debt incurred fin-ished. I hope the new year is a blessing to you. Love,

We Give a Proportionate Share of Income As you set aside valuable time for your discussion on Stewardship of Finance, we encourage each parishioner and every parish family to

apportion God’s blessings to honor Christ in this parish. No matter how measurable, no matter how modest, purposeful giving involves a select portion of a person’s income. Wise giving is planned, and it is a proportionate share of income.
