SGPC AMRITSAR RELIEF CAMP CLOSES 15-12-2014A Relief camp set up by GPC BUDGAM at Gurdwara Shaheed Bunga Sahib on war footing
immediately after the devastating floods on 6 Sept-2014. The Camp was initially run by purchases
and supplies of ration, vegetables, firewood etc from far flung village of Kashmir. The Camp was
further strengthen by getting supplies generally required during such calamities by Shiromani
Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Amritsar, other voluntarily organization and individuals. The
supplies were received by Air for about 15 days till the road link was restored. Then the camp was
taken over by SGPC Amritsar and was run by their senior officials and sewadars. Other than
providing Langar (free food), dry ration, blankets and numerous relief items in the camp. Truck
loads of relief item were provided to responsible peoples by SGPC ASR fro further distribution to
other far flung affected areas of Kashmir. Last consignment of thousands of bedding items (quilts
and mattresses) and blankets were distributed through token system to the people.
SGPC for a medical camp was also set with the help of dedicated specialist Doctors, Para
Medical staff and other volunteers. The camp proved to be the biggest medical camp, which
provided medicines and other connected items to scores of such smaller medical camps. A record
number of more than fifty thousand patients were treated in this camp. This camp was highly
appreciated by many dignitaries/personalities who visited the relief camp.
There were volunteer rescue teams who did a remarkable and very difficult job by rescuing
trapped people from different areas of Srinagar and adjoining areas irrespective of caste or creed.
They even extracted dead bodies from debris of collapsed houses and handed over to their next of
kin for complete their last rituals after legal formalities.
President GPC Budgam thanks hundreds of volunteers, Mohalla Committees, all the well
wishers, teams of Doctors, Rescue teams, numerous NGO's who gave us full support in the hour of
crises. Special thanks are also conveyed to president SGPC Amritsar. DSGMC Delhi, many
individuals and their team for whole heartedly helping people of Kashmir during the devastating
floods.
The camp was run for about 3 months and finally closed on 15-12-2014.
