PAYMENT PLANThe James Farmer Scholars Program is pleased to offer a payment plan for summer camp fees that will help spread your payment across several months. This payment plan is available only during the months of March, April, and May. It will only be applied to camp fees. The payment plan covers the full $300 fee including the non-refundable deposit. If you have questions, please contact the JFS office and speak with Ms. Wilson.

The total fee per scholar is $300.

Only 50 students can be accommodated. Students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

To reserve a place in the program, each scholar will be required to submit a nonrefundable $100 deposit upon registration.

IMPORTANT DATES – SUMMER PROGRAM 2015

June 1 Remaining balance ($200) due or payment plan established.

June 21 Scholars arrive at UMW between 2 and 4 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m.

June 28 Scholars depart UMW by 4:30 p.m.

The Cost

POSSIBLE COURSES

Giving BackLevel: Rising 8–11 graders

Students spend the week understanding service learning and the experience of giving back to the community. They will assist at various volunteer programs in the Fredericksburg area, and the week will culminate in the creation of a presentation summarizing the learning experience of giving back.

The Art of Drama

Students will learn about acting, performance, expression, and staging. Students will perform in a one-act play by the end of the week.

Criminal Justice

This course will explore students’ rights and responsibilities and emphasize crime prevention. Students will learn about the criminal justice field and participate in mock trials.

LeadershipLevel: Rising 8–10 graders

Students learn the essential life skills of communicating effectively with their peers, parents, teachers, and others in the community. Students also learn effective ways of listening in conversations and acknowledging others.

The Fun

The summer program includes time for fun, with a planned activity each evening. Some activities will be off campus. Activities include:

Ice cream social Game night Pool party Bowling Dance night

Dancing with the James Farmer ScholarsLevel: Rising 8–12 graders

If you have watched Dancing With the Stars, you will enjoy this class. Using energy and imagination, you will learn ballroom dance. By the end of the week you’ll impress your friends and family.

Who Am I?

Who are you? This class is focused on self-discovery. You’ll develop coping and listening skills, and improve interpersonal relations, competence, and self-awareness. This class will help you to build a positive self image.
