7th October, 2009 Dear Friends, On behalf of the Seiken Karate Academy I invite You to attend the 1st OKINAWAN KOBUDO GASSHUKU 2010 to be held in Johor Bahru, Johor Darul Takzim. The Shoto Centre was set up as a non partisan training centre where all martial artists in general and karate-ka especially will be treated equally and accorded equal respect irrespective of rank, gender, race, creed or affiliation. It is our privilege to host 1st Okinawan Kobudo Gassuku here in Johor under direction of Jamal Measa Kyoshi, 7th Dan, Okinawan Kobudo, 8th Dan Shorin-ryu Seibukan Karate-do & 7th Dan Aikido, all the way from Germany to be held on the 2nd of January 2010. We invite you to study this invitation thoroughly. Please ensure the timely and precise forwarding of all necessary forms. The deadline for registrations is on the 15th of December, 2009 and due to space constraints, there is a limit to how many participants are accepted. General Information
TITLE OKINAWAN KOBUDO GASSHUKU 2010
ORGANIZER This event is organized by the Seiken Karate Academy and supported by the International
Okinawan Kobudo Kyokai.
GUEST INSTRUCTOR Jamal Measara, Kyoshi 7th Dan Okinawan Kobudo 8th Dan Shorin-ryu Seibukan Karate-do 7th Dan Aikido
Jamal Measara Kyoshi was born in Negeri Sembilan on 1949 and is currently residing in Kelheim (near Munich), Germany where he is the Chief Instructor of the International Okinawan Shorin-ryu Seibukan Karate-do Association (IOSSKA) and the International Okinawan Kobudo Kyokai for Germany and Europe. He is currently ranked 3rd in seniority in IOSSKA after Shimabukoru Zenpo Hanshi, 10th Dan, the Grand Master of Shorin-ryu Seibukan and is highly respected by the Okinawans. He was one of the founding members of the Malaysia Karate Federation (MAKAF) and the Malaysian National Karate Coach before moving to Germany to teach Karate and coach the German National Karate Team. He travels all around the world to promote the authentic traditional martial arts of Okinawan Karate-do & Kobudo. Jamal Kyoshi is also the author of several books on traditional Okinawan martials such as Okinawa Dento karate-do (Traditional Okinawan Karate-do, in German & English), Karate Kata No Rekishi (historical study on kata, in German only) and his latest book is dedicated to the art of Bo-jutsu.

affiliation, grade & style.
CERTIFICATES & SOUVENIERS
All GASSHUKU participants who attend the full Gasshuku will receive a certificate of participation and a commemorative limited edition t-shirt. Additional Commemorative T-Shirts can be pre-ordered at RM35.00 each (pre-paid). Those attending individual sessions will only receive a certificate of participation. Other souvenirs may be purchased from the secretariat desk.

ACCOMODATION & TRANSPORTATION
All GASSHUKU Attendees are responsible for their own accommodations and transportation to and during the GASSHUKU. Each Dojo will be responsible for any minors they bring to the Gasshuku. Accommodations: The following Hotel is offering a special rate for attendees: *HOTEL KELANA (BUDGET HOTEL)

CAMERA / AV POLICY
No photography or video may be taken by spectators and/or participants during the training time. This is so that the participant’s attention will not be distracted during training. Only the official cameraman / videographer are allowed to take photos / videos for the duration of the camp. The photos and movies will be posted on the website and can be downloaded free of charge. There will be a photo session at the end of the Gasshuku.

HANDPHONE POLICY
As courtesy to the instructor and to the participants of GASSHUKU, please either switch off your handphone or set it on vibrate mode. Please answer all calls (if you really must) outside of the training hall. By extension of the CAMERA / AV POLICY, no photos or videos may be taken using your cameraphone.
HALAL & VEGETARIAN MEALS
All meals provided will be HALAL (based on Islamic dietary laws). Vegetarian meals are available on request. We will try our best to accommodate.
REGISTRATION Registration will begin on 2nd January, 2010 (Saturday) from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m.
DRESS CODE Traditional karate keiko-gi (white only) or traditional kobudo keiko-gi (black top & white/black bottom) for all training sessions. Non-karate martial artists may wear their training uniform or alternatively a white t-shirt and loose track bottoms. NO SHORTS or TIGHTS PLEASE! The Academy encourages the Muslimah (Muslim Women) to participate in the GASSHUKU. Therefore, in order to maintain some uniformity we request the following; participants and those wearing a hijab or scarf with your keiko-gi should wear a plain, unpatterned, white scarf.
INSURANCE The organizer will not be providing insurance for GASSHUKU participants. Each participant must ensure that they are properly insured. We advice you seek the NON-LIFE SPORTS INSURANCE from your insurance provider.

Waiver/Release Agreement
Every participant must sign and submit this waiver/release agreement.
Event OKINAWAN KOBUDO GASSHUKU 2010, Shoto Centre, Skudai, Johor Bahru, Johor Darul Takzim, Malaysia, 2nd January 2010. I understand that there are risks and dangers inherent in participating and/or receiving instruction at the OKINAWAN KOBUDO GASSHUKU 2010 (all of which will herein be referred to as the EVENT). I also understand that in order to participate and/or receive instruction at the EVENT, I must give up my rights to hold the International OKINAWAN KOBUDO KYOKAI, the SEIKEN KARATE ACADEMY and all other clubs, schools, instructors, members, officials and representatives (collectively the “Releases”) liable for any injury or damage which I may suffer while participating and/or receiving instruction at the EVENT. Knowing this, and in consideration of being permitted to participate and/or receive instruction at the EVENT, I hereby voluntarily release the Releases, and each of them, from any and all liability resulting from or arising out of my participation and/or receipt of instruction at the EVENT. I understand and agree that I am releasing not only the entities and individuals set forth in the paragraph above, but also the officers, agents, principals, partners, shareholders, directors and employees of those entities or individuals. I understand and agree that this Waiver/Release will have the effect of releasing, discharging, waiving and forever relinquishing any and all actions or causes of action that I may have or have had, whether past, present or future, whether known or unknown, and whether anticipated or unanticipated by me, arising out of my participation and/or receipt of instruction at the EVENT. I understand and agree that by signing this Waiver/Release, I am assuming full responsibility for any and all risk of death or personal injury or property damage suffered by me while participating and/or receiving instruction at the EVENT. I expressly acknowledge and assume any and all risks that my participation in the EVENT may subject me to personal injury or bodily harm. I understand and agree that this Waiver/Release will be binding on me, my spouse, my heirs, my personal representatives, my assigns, my children and any guardian ad litem for said children.
