On May 17th, the Church Council met to discuss the possibility of reopening for in-person worship gatherings and activities. For now, we will continue to meet virtually for worship, Sunday School, Bible Study, and volunteer and business meetings. While there are no specific dates or targeted timelines to share at this point, we do want to share an understanding of how we are looking at the future. Outlined below are the guiding principles we will use as we will filter and pray through all decisions and ac- tions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The emphasized words tie us back to our missional focus at First Baptist – to Show Gods Love, Tell the Good News, Grow Spiritually and Serve Others. I. We will prioritize the health and safety of our entire church family. From the in-utero ones to the very oldest, to all the CDC families and staff who enter the building daily, we hold each person in heart and mind as we consider health and safety. As such, moving forward with any reopening plans will be done slowly and cautiously. What better way to serve others and show Gods love than with a love spirit, mindful of the collective health and well-being of our FBCC family. II. This pandemic is a season; it will not last forever. However, it will continue to change how we do things for a long period of time. While we are practicing caution, we must also practice patience. Yes, this pandemic might result in some permanent changes, but these could be changes that bring a lot of good. We are growing spiritually in new ways, and we look forward to the day we can continue that growth in person. There is, no doubt, something very sacred in the gathering of the body of Christ when the time is right. III. Virtually, we can continue to hear the word preached, tell the good news, learn together and grow spiritually each and every week. We are extraordinarily grateful to our media team who has made virtu- al worship possible. These are volunteers who have assumed the equivalent of part-time jobs, and that is a wonderful ministry, especially right now. It is beautiful to see brothers and sisters across the de- nominations be creative during this time. We all have different ways we can tell the good news during a pandemic, and we celebrate and embrace those ways, including our virtual capabilities at FBCC. As we have more information and guidance on dates and specifics, we will communicate those with you. In the meantime, please hold fast to the missional statements that ground us in our collective identity to show, tell, grow and serve, even in the midst of a pandemic. We praise our almighty God who keeps our fellow- ship kindled through the powerful work of the Holy Spirit while we are physically apart. First Baptist Church Clayton Church Council Friends, it seems like forever since the last NBC lunch. I miss the great food but most of all, I miss the wonderful fellowship. As far as the food, the Smithfield chicken was good but the best was down the line at all the great homemade fixins’….and the dessert table, nuf’ said!! By now, you’ve probably read the statement from the Church Coun- cil stating that tings will be staying the same for a while. Thankfully we have a great team on the media committee that has allowed us to gather electronically for Sunday School, Worship Service, and Bible Studies, etc. The Lord has blessed us will all these wonderful years but during this unsettling time, it has put us in the group susceptible to having complications with the coronavirus so, “Please Be Care- ful”. I look forward to seeing you all soon!! In Christ, Joe Hester and Senior Council Jiles Harrell wishes to extend an invitation to all church members to join him each Tuesday evenings beginning at 7:00 pm – 8:20 pm for a study on Proverbs. Pray for Addie Radford as she continues to recover from heart bypass surgery from May 15. She is in Rex Hospital 6001. She will go for physical rehabilitation on Wednesday, May 20th to Rex Rehab.

Pray for Johnny Ellis, who is doing well after receiving a pacemaker yesterday. He is in ICU at Rex room 4006 and hopes to go home on Wednesday.

Pray for Percy Lee, who is recovering from hip surgery after a fall this past weekend. He is now in Neuro ICU at Wake Med in Raleigh, going through some additional tests.

Pray for Pastor Marco Chacaguasae and his family in Ecuador. He has lost several family members to death due to the coronavirus. Pray for the people and hospitals in Ecuador, which have been overwhelmed with COVID-19.

May 2020

The continuing spread of the coronavirus is challenging us all to consider how to do outreach when reaching out in person is difficult. Under the guidelines of the governor, we/I see no safe way to make in-class Sunday School work at this time; due to the size of class members and the size of classrooms, there is no way we can spread out 6 feet apart.

I want to give a special thanks to all of our Sunday School teach-ers that set up and are using Zoom to teach their Sunday School Classes. We started slow, but the classes that are participating in Zoom now have average participation that would match the in-class numbers. Through Zoom, we may physically be distant, but we are connected with each other through God’s power, the gifts of technology, and our care for each other that surpasses any limitations.

Sunday School Literature:

The new Sunday School literature is ready for pick-up and is outside the office, in the alcove, in front of the office door. Your literature will be in a box labeled with your class name. Pick up at your convenience. (Office hours: Mon-Tues 8:30 am-5:00 pm and Wed 8:30 am-12:30 pm)
