Office of Curriculum and Instruction, Boston, MA (2008 – 2012) Teaching American History (TAH) Program Consultant

The TAH Program provided professional development opportunities to social studies teachers across the district through high-level lectures and seminars, field visits and lesson planning workshops. Responsibilities also included the planning and development of history curricula, the writing of district-wide midterm and final examinations, the creation of MCAS preparation materials for educators, and grant writing to support the entire program. Successful grant writing resulted in the winning of two 3-year grants worth approximately $1 Million each.

Greater Egleston High School, Roxbury, MA (2006 – 2008) History & Government Teacher

Greater Egleston Community High School is a small urban pilot school within the Boston public schools network. The student population is ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse. Taught four classes for which I independently designed curricula: U.S. History, World History, Government & Economics, and Historical Literature.

Teacher & Site Director, Credit Recovery Program

Taught and co-administrated a summer program designed to help lagging and lapsed students make up missing coursework and earn their high school diplomas. Teaching responsibilities included coverage of not only history and social studies, but math, ELA and science curricula as well. Administrative responsibilities included intake of students, management of academic pathways, coordination with college and financial aid counselors, and collaboration with District officials. Conducted basic data tracking and research to determine effectiveness of the program in its pilot year. Since its inception, this program has grown to include hundreds of students across the District.

College of Communication, Division of Emerging Media Studies (2012 – present) Research Assistant Currently helping to supervise 8 Masters students in the Division’s inaugural graduate cohort. Responsibilities include teaching qualitative and quantitative research methods, guiding the progress of multiple individual research projects and helping manage the launch of a joint clinical study with the School of Public Health. The study involves the development of an original smartphone application through which recently pregnant women can seek out resources to better manage their diagnoses of gestational diabetes.
