DADDY LISTENS TO CLASSIC FM AND JAHNWI CHANGES TO CAPITAL OR CLYDE 1 ON DIFFERENT FREQUENCIES!

If you go to the auction site eBay and search for BC-221, you would get these photos:

Now, what would it feel like to have such a thing sitting in front of your sofa?

Well, you can also touch and feel it in your school! Touch and feel a piece of history, that has seen action in World War II, but Handle with Care.

Let us look at a Military document (50 years ago..)

Why is it marked “Restricted”?

BECAUSE:

1. It can be used to track enemy aircraft coming to bomb your homes.a. It can track how fast it is coming or going away.b. You can listen to the conversation the enemy pilot is having with his home base.c. You can track all the frequencies he is switching on!

2. It can be used to track enemy ships coming to torpedo and sink your ships.a. It can do all the things as above, including talking to submarines under the sea.

3. If you are near a space station, you can listen to the conversation astronauts in outer space are having with ground control.

4. You can switch to different frequencies as you are going out to attack your enemy for talking to your military commanders. Switching frequencies on the go means that your enemy can’t listen in to your conversation and know beforehand where you are actually going to attack.

5. You can also transmit your TV signals on SSB (Single Side Band) mode, with very low power consumption. Imagine freaking out with your gang and beaming the pictures on your own exclusive private TV channel! Imagine the possibilities in a battlefield.

This is awesome, but what progress have we seen in 60 years after the World War?

The big box with all its knobs and switches for changing the frequency is now all done automatically in our mobile phones, which changes frequencies on the fly- without us being aware of it- as we smoothly walk across the area of one mobile phone coverage to another. Not only that, our mobile phones also recognised the signature of different service providers (Orange, Vodaphone, etc.) as we hop across one company to another.

For tech buffs, this is a Heterodyne Receiver with a Crystal Oscillator for “Check Frequencies”.
