Jacques Cartier The man who discovered the St. Lawrence
River
Early yearsHe was well educated of cartography,
navigation, astronomy, mathematics, and seamanship.
He studied in Dieppe, a major French center for navigators.
He had a good marriage with Catherine Des Granches, the daughter of Jacques Des Granches a chevalier du roi and constable of Saint-Malo.

Jacques Cartier was the second of five children to be born.
The route to CanadaHe sailed up the St. Lawrence river and recognized for what it was. He continued on establishing Montreal, Canada. They spent the winter at an indian village near Quebec, where Cartier watched 25 of his men die from scurvy. Then he kidnapped 12 indians and its chief and headed to France.
Place lived inCartier went to sea also just when he was a boy. He was a respectful mariner, Improved his social status in 1520 by marrying Catherine Des Granches, member of a leading family. His good name in St. Malo is recognized by its frequent appearance in baptismal registers as godfather or witness.

ConclusionJacques Cartier was a highly respected sailor
so the king sent him out on an expedition to find a Nothwest passage. Jacques though did not find it.
He was believed that he accompanied Giovanni da Verrazzano on his expeditions to North America exploring the Northeast from Cape Fear, North Carolina to Maine and also a voyage to Brazil.
He was an explorer who sailed New Foundland and the St. Lawrence river
