Sight Flow Indicators and Sight Windows, properly applied and maintained, are valuable assets toproduction facilities throughout the world. Jacoby-Tarbox® will work with your staff to increase the dutycycle of the units in your application. Minimizing down time, will help maximize process output. Materialchoice, use of linings, gasket pick, window material or style, and shielding to protect the window are someof the attributes reviewed to evaluate the unit for a given process.
To help with proper application, Jacoby-Tarbox® sight flow indicators and sight windows are designedto meet or exceed application specifications right “out of the box”. Units are available for the followingspecifications:
Section VIII B2.1 B16.5 B31.1 B31.3 BPE
ASTM CRN FDA USDA DIN flanged JIS flanged MIL flanged PED
If your application has other requirements contact your Jacoby-Tarbox® representative or a Jacoby-TarboxApplication Specialist. All units are shipped with maintenance notes attached directly to the unit.
Compliance…“Out of the Box”
Jacoby-Tarbox® Sight Flow Indicators aremanufactured by the Clark-Reliance Corporation. They are distributed world-wide to meet routine aswell as the most punishing applications. All majorSight Flow Indicator styles are offered in a variety ofsizes with threaded, flanged or other connections, ranging from ” (DN8) to 16” (DN400). Operatingpressures range from full vacuum to 3000 PSIG(207 Bar) depending on style and model. ALL sightflow indicators are hydrostatically tested to 150% ofrated pressure and are guaranteed free of materialand manufacturing defects.
Standard Jacoby-Tarbox® Sight Flow Indicatorsand Sight Windows can be specified toaccommodate almost all applicationrequirements. Special indicators can bedesigned and manufactured to meet uniqueinstallation, processing or flow criteria. A widerange of indicator body and gasket materials, glass types and window designs, non-wettedparts and materials, plus special corrosion-resistant lined indicators are available. All unitsare “built to order” with “off the shelf” deliveries.

Phaeton XTL
The Phaeton® XTL (X-treme Tank Light) and SL (SightLight), are examples of products designed with thecustomer’s needs first. The XTL decreases the number ofwindows required on a vessel by enabling viewing andlighting in one window and can backlight 4” and larger sightflow indicators. The SL fits on smaller openings, oftenreplacing “light pipes” and will fit sight flow indicators down tosize ”.
Only Jacoby-Tarbox® offers UniShield® Window Protection as a unique alternative totraditional shielding methods with excellent clarity and without minimizing view due todarkening. More aggressive chemicals and the addition of negative pressures during, orbetween, processes pose a unique problem for shielding, often limiting the life of the shield.UniShield will extend the duty cycle of the window, increasing “up time” for the process.

Innovative Solutions…UniShield® Window Protection
Phaeton® XTL & SL Explosion Proof Lights
The LED light source is cool to the touch, and willnot cause products to “bake on” the glass. Thisminimizes glass replacement and maximizes tankservice time, while eliminating any risk ofpersonal injury from burning. Powerconsumption is less than 1/20th of a 100 wattbulb. The mounting apparatus facilitatesinstallation in minutes on most manufacturerssight windows and sight flow indicators with nodisassembly or modification of the existing unitsrequired.
UniGlas® discs are the only glass discs that may be placed back into servicesafely after use. UniGlas discs have glass fused to metal, and only the metalis placed in a compressive load by the assembly. Ordinary glass discs, stressed by this type of load within an assembly, must be discarded afteruse. Hidden damage within the glass is not visible by the naked eye. Thisdamage make predicting performance impossible. Use UniGlas in allapplications where flat borosilicate glass discs are installed. Onlyreplacement gaskets are needed, which decreases the spare parts held instores. Minimize handling errors and improper installation by removing glassmaterial misidentification as well as any possibility of placing dangerous, used glass, back into service.
Glass Safety: UniGlas® Safety Sight Window Glass
Phaeton SL
UniShield, if permeated, shows a changein the assembly before glass integrityis compromised, allowing UniShield towork as an “early warning” device. Smallwhitish dots indicate to the operator that the shieldhas been permeated long before any changes in unitintegrity occur, allowing time for safe convenientreplacement during the next scheduled outage.
By the time .015” (.4mm) of corrosion orerosion exists and is now visible to thegeneral observer, the structural integrity ofthe glass has already been compromisedand a safety hazard exists.

90º angle models are recommendedwhen space or systemcharacteristics make straight lineindicators unsuitable. Angle modelscan be supplied plain, model 90, orwith a drip tube, 90-D. Drip tubesare positioned into the center of thewindow area for easy observation.Plain models will operate effectivelywith solution flows in any direction.

Severe Service Solutions
To meet specific performance requirementsJacoby-Tarbox® Sight Flow Indicators and SightWindows , indicators can be manufactured fromCarbon Steel, 316 stainless steel, Bronze, Alloy20, Duplex, Hastelloy®, Inconel®, Monel®, otherstainless steels and special alloys.
UniGlas® & Other Glass Materials
Body (head) Materials
Jacoby-Tarbox® UniGlas® windows are designedwith the highest safety factor, and are thestrongest sight windows presently in use and arehighly recommended. UniGlas, capable ofhandling most high pressure systems attemperatures from -435°F (-259C) to 600°F(316C), employs no glass bonding agents andrequires no shims, packing, or adjusting screws forinstallation.
Quartz is available forapplications above 500°F(260C) up to 2000°F (1100C).
Borosilicate glass remainsstandard in all Jacoby-Tarbox®sight flow indicators, however, the far superior performanceof UniGlas® is available onall models.
Gasket MaterialsJacoby-Tarbox® Sight Flow Indicators andSight Windows employ neoprene as thestandard gasket material. Other gaskets areavailable for compatibility with special fluidsor operating/system characteristics. Choicesinclude PTFE Gylon® 3545, Garlock® IFG 5500.
LiningsFlanged sight flow indicators supplied with either a flutter or drip tube indicator, or with no indicator areavailable with a choice of corrosion-resistant linings. PFA Teflon®, PTFE Teflon, other specialtyfluoropolymers, plastics, and rubber are available. In certain applications, these linings provide cost savingsover indicators manufactured from high performance body materials. Linings are available in variousapplication methods to specialize the lining for different service conditions from full vacuum to highpressures.
