Volunteering and Other Interests

TedX UWE I am currently volunteering as the speaker liaison for the first ever TedX event at UWE. The event is completely ran by students and after this first event on the 'Innovative Attitude' we are hoping this will carry on to become an annual event. My role is to work directly with the 9 speakers to make sure they have all the necessary information and support, arrange two speakers training days with an external presentation consultant, create speaker bios for our website and Facebook, as well as attend group meetings and help on the day itself to make sure everything runs smoothly with the talks.

Volunteering I am currently volunteering twice a month with Bernado's. My role is helping out on an Adventure Playground, playing with the children giving them a safe place to play while giving time for their families to seek support with Bernado's. To broaden my working experiences I also volunteered at my local library for the Summer Reading Challenge (2012). I supported library staff and helped children to get the most from the challenge. This gave me an opportunity to build professional working relationships and my communication skills with staff, parents and small children.

Cultural experience

After I left Nationwide, I spent 3 and a half months travelling Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. This was a fantastic opportunity to see the unique culture and history of South East Asia. I had many fantastic opportunities such as achieving my advanced PADI diving certificate as well as visiting amazing locations such as Angkor Wat and Halong Bay.

Other hobbies During my spare time I play guitar and enjoy listening to an eclectic mix of music. I have enjoyed music festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading and the Isle of Wight festival where the highlight was watching Bruce Springsteen complete an almost 3 hour set.
