To accomplish the Rule of Third, a ratio of 5:8 is used in positioning the subject of the photograph.

Notice the

placement of the

lighthouse and the

ocean’s horizon

line.

It represents where

the 5 to 8 ratio

would intersect.

The photograph on the left is another good example of the

Rule of Third. The subject is placed at the place where

the imaginary lines would intersect.
