apreensão o tornara ainda mais fechado, mais
tímido. Sempre temera reuniões, mesmo quando
tudo estava bem.
Was already concerned with since the day before that meal. It was just a Christmas
supper with the family together, but actually it was more a celebration of self-
affirmation, not for him, of course, especially that week was totally shocked,
but to their relatives. The seizure made him even more closed, more shy. Meetings had
always feared, even when everything was fine.
coisas lhe andaram bem?
Onde arranjar outro
emprego nesses tempos de crises? O que seria da família? E
o aluguel, o armazém, supermercado?
A padaria?
Could not resist a smile when things went well you? Now then, with the loss of employment,
walked like blind snake, just missing even butting walls. After nine years working in the office of that moldy factory, earning a salary
that just gave to survive with his wife and two children, just received the resignation letter.
Were those humiliating days when the manager tried to show its position. Where to get another
job in these times of crises? What would the family? And the rent, warehouse, supermarket?
The bakery?
que havia perdido o emprego, ela vivia a suspirar e a olhá-lo;
paletó, pedindo bicicletas no Natal...
Days were humiliating. He had come to beg, but the manager with the utmost diplomacy tried to explain
that there were too many people in the office and he could easily be replaced with one that would cost
far less to the company. With prior notice burning his hands, walked around the city offering its
services in vain. In your home, the weather was no better. After he had said to the woman who had lost her job, she lived to sigh and look at him, seemed to weigh it, measure it with his eyes. And the kids put
little notes in the pockets of his jacket, asking bikes for Christmas ...
Two days ago, the bank withdrew its guarantee fund and the firm had received what was owed to him. Even applying the money, not earn him
much. He felt like a slice of rotten family.Usually running from family meetings, lunches and dinners of celebration Sunday best, lately
he seemed to be shrinking even physically. The moral, he trailed behind him as a burden. It was
a recovery; got the distinct impression that looked down. There also could not compare his
wife and their children with the rest of the family.
malfadados piqueniques, estavam sempre dependendo
Those who were always dressed more simply invented and when those unlucky picnics
were always depending on the cars of laws. Nobody ever said anything, but he felt
treated him with a certain complacency, even had a certain disregard for their
opinions. She felt humiliated, embittered. And above all, that night, while preparing for
the Christmas dinner at the home of her mother, she felt old and defeated.
As ruas
comerciais, agitadas ainda naquela véspera de natal
deprimiam-no ainda mais.
Bought a souvenir for his wife and two cheapie games for boys. As was also the play's hidden between the family friend, had bought a tie for the brother to whom would have to give a gift, already decided
in a lottery from which not even called her to participate.
They went out in the rain in December, which was fine that night. The shopping streets, busy on that Christmas Eve still
depressed him further.
A casa
As
The music gave her want to cry. He could see on the faces of children all the excitement by which they were taken. They were certain they would win the bike such. His wife's face seemed strangely calm, happy even. The bright home, the joy of family, decorating the tree as a
hen sheltering dozens of gifts under its branches nonmetal, made him feel worse. All her joy supposed caused him a terrible price and took a few drinks to unwind. Children played with cousins, and half were
running around and around the tree, trying to guess their gifts.
tremia-lhe as mãos.
There was no bike. He went from one side to another, listening here and there talk of investments, trade
cars, furniture and problems with jobs, until he found a newspaper, sat down and opened it. I could barely
read the headlines when her sister (who was very well off), snatched it from his hands, laughing, "but what is
it? Reading yesterday's newspaper? Come it's time for supper. "
A turkey never seemed so dry, even a crumbly so rough. Someone was talking about champagne and
caviar. It should be choked once or twice, the wineglass trembled in her hands.
conter as crianças.
He felt observed and a great discomfort came over him. He wanted to get up and with an
excuse to rush back home, but his wife would never forgive him. The napkin fell on the floor,
bent down to pick it up, hit his head on the table, someone asked him if he did not like the food, he replied that it was great that he is he
was not well in the stomach. Finally it was time for gifts. Everyone walked to the tree, her
hands trying to contain the children.
A mulher o
His seemed the worst. He risked a look at the soles of the oldest and stuck the darning
trousers of Junior. Colored papers flying everywhere, trading cards, squeals of
surprise, kisses, hugs, euphoria. He tried to join, but avoided looking at the
faces of children. However, the general excitement, everything seemed fine. The
woman looked at him with a naughty guy. He must have drunk a little more, otherwise
how could it be with that guy.
Finally, bent down and grabbed her gift under the tree. It was a small package, but very well
done. Slowly, but without much curiosity, began to unwrap it. Wondered at a certain air
of expectation around. He noted that some relatives tried to disguise. Thought you might even be a bad joke. All gifts were enormous,
only his was so tiny. He felt so guilty about his wife and children! Should have spent your guarantee fund by buying everything they
deserved. It seemed to him even though he never even gave them the essentials.
o pacote. Era uma caixinha de veludo. Abriu-
a, lá dentro havia um papel dobrado. Curioso ,
desdobrou-o. Se fosse um cheque jamais os
perdoaria...
Suddenly, the children come abuzz, jump into his neck, shouting: Thanks Dad,
thanks ... and out again running with their arms full of toys, the woman looked at him with an open smile, loving, indecisive, just open the package. It was a velvet box. She opened it, inside there was a folded paper.
Curious, unfolded it. If it were a check never forgive them ...
Em letras bem firmes e cuidadosas estava
escrito: NÓS TE AMAMOS. Levantou a
cabeça. O resto do pessoal saíra
discretamente.
ouvido:
FELIZ NATAL, FELIZ ANO NOVO MEU
AMOR...
In very firm and careful letters were written, WE LOVE YOU. He raised his
head. The rest of the staff had left quietly. Only his wife was in the room,
right in front. They embraced her tightly and whispered in his ear:
MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY NEW YEAR MY LOVE ...
