The flexibility of the j2 UniversalTool-kit allows models developedwithin j2 to be used in the wholerange of simulated environments, from desktop to full missionsimulator platforms. The j2 Universal Tool-kit is able to predict, in real time, aerodynamic changes andperformance changes on any aircraft due to different stores configurations and storesrelease scenarios that will impact upon behaviour, manoeuvrability and performance.

The j2Pilot software development kit (SDK) has opened up significant opportunity to drive afull range of simulator environments. This has enabledj2 to introduce full G-Cuing into Pilot trainingenvironments using authorised Martin Baker seats.

The actuators within the seat work in a coordinated wayto provide simulated movement aligned to the pilot’scentre of gravity, which in itself is aligned to the aircraftprimary axis X, Y and Z.

j2 Universal Framework The j2 Universal Framework is the core of the j2 Universal Tool-kit. This provides the main data access, version control and configuration management. The j2 Universal Framework is required for all users. Aircraft models and Flight Test/Simulation results can be automatically imported for use by the plug-ins.

j2 Freedom Run autotests on model development compare predicted against actual behaviour.

j2 Pilot Configurable simulator able to fly any aircraft in the database.

j2 pilot SDK Extends j2 Pilot to provide fully configurable simulator solution able to fly any aircraft in the database and work with user defined hardware.

j2 Active Integrates simulator models with the j2 Universal Tool-Kit.

j2 Visualize Qualify the simulator model against flight test data. View repeatable charts showing model responses to pre-determined manoeuvres.

j2 Virtual View the flights after simulation to show Pilots what they flying really looked like. Enhance the whole Training Experience by comparing Pilot responses to ‘ideal’ scenarios.

j2 Builder Import designers/manufacturers models or create your own. Using simple hierarchical data structure.

j2 Elements With only basic geometry and surface information available, build full dynamic models using integrated aerodynamic strip theory.

j2 Developer Connect existing model and simulation code into new models to enable code re-use.

The actuators are stimulated from a complex 6-axis j2 flight model, which calculates in real-time equations of motion, based on the location of the pilot within the simulated aircraftmodel, for example Hawk, Typhoon, and F35. This provides the pilot with ‘surge’ ‘heave’ and‘sway’ cues. The j2 solution can accommodate the move from fixed base simulators to fullG-seat simulators and incorporate a completely integrated and packaged simulator intoadvanced Pilot training, to cover such complex manoeuvres as strafing runs, flat spins, stores release and combat dog fighting against other aircraft in linked G seat simulators.

The j2 Pilot SDK has proven the ability of the j2 Universal Tool-kit to assimilate into a multi-supplier simulation environment; it can be mapped to any simulation hardware platformfrom desktop to full mission environments. This application, derived from world-class aeromodelling techniques, can be combined with accurate terrain mapping data to provide astep change in normal point-to-point mission planning. The j2 Mission planning tool set canhave a pilot fly a scenario in advance, expose potential operational weaknesses and test theviability of exit routes and other manoeuvres. This same capability can be applied to all areasof aircraft operations from civil to military.
