Lance Hopkins The University of Tulsa College of Law J.D., 1992 University of Oklahoma B.A., 1989 Mr. Hopkins has a wealth of experience in diverse areas of law, with particular emphasis on real estate and litigation. He has expertise in all areas of real estate law, including title examination, commercial and residential real estate transactions, and matters involving Native American Tribal land. He also has a diverse range of litigation experience at both the trial and appellate levels in both Federal and state courts. For the last 16 years, Lance has served on the Criminal Justice Act Panels for both the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma. Since 2008, he has served on Criminal Justice Act Appellate Panel for the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. His trial and appellate practices have been successful, with numerous acquittals by jury and through motion practice at the trial court level, and favorable appellate decisions reported by the Tenth Circuit. He also has been victorious in two Petitions for Certiorari filed with the United States Supreme Court. Having a wealth of experience in representing indigent defendants, Lance was appointed by former Governor Brad Henry to serve on the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System Board in 2010, on which he served for three years. Mr. Hopkins also has legislative relations experience in the area of oil and gas. From 1993 through 1996, he worked in the Federal Relations Department of the American Petroleum Institute in Washington, D.C. His duties in that position included the preparation of a weekly status report of all pending legislation of interest to and affecting the petroleum industry during periods that Congress was in session. Mike Smiley has represented banks, other financial institutions,and businesses in commercial disputes, collection litigation, bankruptcy matters, and in business transactions for over 25 years. His practice in-cludes a variety of creditor’s rights areas, including lien enforcement, foreclosures and repossessions. Mr. Smiley also represents his clients in construction disputes and real estate matters. He has litigated matters instate and federal courts, including bankruptcy court. He is the leader of the Financial Institutions and Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights practice groups.
