ADNAN MENDERES AIRPORT
4.3 million people reside in Izmir and it is the 3rd most populous city in Turkey. Also referred as the “Pearl of the Aegean”, Izmir is a tourist destination located at the Aegean coast of Turkey and is well-known for its historical sites, beautiful beaches and holiday resorts. The city attracts 950 thousand foreign visitors each year thanks to the numerous tourist attractions in and around. Hosting one of the biggest ports in Turkey, Izmir also has a significant amount of trade volume.
TAV Airports built brand new international and domestic terminals for Izmir Airport (ADB) in order to expand the capacity and accommodate the increasing air transport demand to/from the city.
Operator of 15 airports worldwide, TAV Airports assists the airlines and tour operators to grow their business in Izmir through its regional experience and know-how.
IZMIR’S BACKGROUND
Izmir is well-known for its historical areas, beautiful beaches and holiday resorts. Izmir Airport (ADB) is the most convenient entry point to the Aegean region for the visitors. The city is closely located to major touristic districts such as Çeşme, Selçuk and Kuşadası.
Its massive tourism makes Izmir a lively city. The House of the Virgin Mary, located near Ephesus in Selçuk, is a holly place for Christians and visited by more than half a million people every year.
The tourism development plans of the Government regarding Izmir and its vicinity reveals that the bed capacity of the region will be increased from 75,000 to 100,000 by 2023. Ongoing investments in holiday resorts and conference halls will boost Izmir tourism and the area will become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey for foreign visitors.
International Arts Festival, short film and jazz festivals and Izmir international Fair are some of many events held in Izmir.
ADB is closely located and well connected to the city. Transportation by bus to the city center takes only 20 minutes. Access is also available by shuttle buses, trains and taxis.

The city of Izmir and its vicinity has always been a popular holiday destination among Germans and Turkish Cypriots. UK, Iran and Netherlands markets are also significant in ADB.

Izmir Airport’s (ADB) International Terminal is built in 2006 and has the capacity to handle 5 million passengers per annum. The international terminal is equipped with the latest technology for aviation systems, all contributing to the efficiency, security and speed of operations.
Upon taking over the domestic terminal operations in 2012, TAV also built a brand new domestic terminal for ADB. The construction of the new domestic terminal is completed in first quarter of 2014.
After the completion of the construction works of the new domestic terminal, ADB got a complete new look and improved to a higher service quality. Using ADB is simplicity both for passengers and airlines.

ADB IS A POPULAR SUMMER DESTINATION Izmir Airport (ADB) passenger traffic have surged 44% during the last 6 years, growing from 9.3 million to 13.4 million. 2.7 million international passengers were served in ADB in 2018.
ADB is a popular destination in Aegean coast with non-stop international flight destinations totaling up to 67 which are served by 49 different airlines, including the seasonal summer charter operations.
While Sun Express and Pegasus Airlines are the dominant carriers, Lufthansa, Thomas Cook Airlines, Belavia, Thomson Airways, EasyJet, Aer Lingus, Aegean Airlines and Saudi Arabian Airlines are some of the international airlines operating in ADB.
