Pulse Feast 2016 #PulseFeast was a huge success, reaching 21 million people and having 141 events and meals, touching from ocean to ocean. Followers on the “home page take overs” of pulses.org and iyp2016.org could see the amazing amount of tweets, photos, videos, and messages that were shared globally. We have a page here which will continue to live‐on.

EVENTS AROUND THE WORLD In 36 countries, events ranged from a skating party with a Dutch Olympic medal winner to over 30 pulse dishes served at the Istanbul Flower Restaurant in Dubai. A university meal in Chennai joined with a lecture on pulses happened on the same day children in Malawi were fed protein supplements made with pulses. As they were chiming in the International Year at the Gate Restaurant in London, those across the Atlantic geared up for new dishes in Brazil, Three Kings celebrations in Mexico City, lunch for 100 in Pullman, and a media bash in Toronto that had pulses trending on twitter. SOCIAL MEDIA On Twitter, the hashtags had a total reach of 21,849,172. #PulseFeast was trending globally after the massive Thunderclap, with a reach of 7,299,040 including the main UN twitter. #LovePulses showed up on the trending topics column on Twitter.com for over an hour, ranking 4th in Toronto, 8th in Canada, and 50th in Australia. Below is a recap of the social reach for each hashtag:

We were successful in engaging new communities related to cooking and the food‐passionate, with hashtags being used on multiple social platforms, including Instagram, Vine, Facebook, and Twitter. The #PulseFeast hashtag had a reach on Instagram of 334,998. On Facebook we achieved a reach of 315,000 and accumulated 25,747 likes. We had excellent support from the UN, who were responsible for 6 million of the Thunderclap reach.

HIGHLIGHTS From 3 musical submissions, to dogs, cats, and birds all celebrating, it was a diverse endorsement of pulses. Some events had 100s, some were food aficionados enjoying their best pulse recipes.

AROUND THE WORLD | National Committees AUSTRALIA The Australian national committee celebrated Pulse Feast with a Launch dinner and by acquiring many new Pulse Pledgers! Australia will be holding another event later this month. BAHRAIN A luncheon with employees was held at Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co. (GPIC). GPIC will be featuring pulses in their company lunch every Wednesday! CHINA In celebration of the beginning of a new year and Pulse Feast, AGT Ingredients and Foods (Tianjin) Co. Ltd. celebrated Pulse Feast with a lunch!



COLOMBIA Aburra held a cooking event and company meal to celebrate Pulse Feast in Medellin, Colombia. DUBAI Hakan Foods held a Pulse Feast at the Istanbul Flower Restaurant in Dubai to celebrate pulses. Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of DMCC, attendant the event along with close to 150 guests. INDIA The Indian national committee held a Pulse Feast at a school in Chennai, India, to celebrate pulses. Students enjoyed various pulse based dishes.

MALAWI Pulse nutrients were served to children in Malawi to celebrate Pulse Feast.



NETHERLANDS The Netherlands national committee held a Pulse Feast in Amsterdam with an Ice Skating Clinic and Warm Meal from Pulse Food Truck “Blije Boon”. Watch the Dutch video! PERU The Peruvian national committee celebrated Pulse Feast at the Marriott hotel in Lima, Peru. Watch the recipe video! SINGAPORE The Singapore Pulses Association celebrated International Year of Pulses on the occasion of Pongal festival by distributing pulses at the Perumal temple in Singapore. The event was graced by Senior Minister of State at the ministries of Culture, Community and Youth and Finance Ms. See Ann. The event was organised by Little India Shop owners Association. A Pulse Feast dinner celebration also took place on the 8th at Agrocorp International Pte. Ltd in Singapore. TURKEY The Mersin Commodity Exchange held a pulse Lunch for board of directors, committee members, industry members, and for employees to celebrate Pulse Feast. There will be another event taking place in Turkey later this month.



UNITED KINGDOM The UK national committee held an event in London at The Gate restaurant.

MEDIA COVERAGE The media coverage that followed has been tremendous, is still being logged, and includes major media channels all over the world. Since the launch of the International Year of Pulses on 10th November it has featured on approximately 480+ websites. From 19th December 2015 to 8th January 2016, a minimum of 160 websites have covered the International Year of Pulses.
