DESCRIPTION

The Irish Youth Choir was founded to provide an opportunity for young Irish singers to increase their musical skills, to sing together under the direction of professional conductors and tutors, and to perform demanding and rewarding choral works to the highest possible standard. It is the only national dedicated youth choir that offers training opportunities for conductors and singers from 18-28 and, as of 2014, 14-17 from all over Ireland. By becoming a friend of the Irish Youth Choir, you will not only help to secure the future of the choir but ensure that future generations of young Irish choral singers will have the experience of sharing the joy, passion and opportunity to aspire to choral excellence.

“One of the highlights of my time in the Irish Youth Choir has been the wonderful variety of music that we have had the privilege of studying and performing…we have been introduced to an exciting repertoire that has changed the way I perceive certain genres of music.”

The Irish Youth Choir is the ONLY NATIONAL DEDICATED YOUTH CHOIR that offers training opportunities for conductors and singers from all over Ireland.

Set up as a choir of 100 SINGERS IN 1982, IYC now consists of three choirs; the Irish Youth Choir (18–28), the Irish Youth Chamber Choir and the Irish Youth Training Choir (14–17) all overseen by the Association of Irish Choirs.

All IYC singers not only have the chance to develop professional skills in music but also in TEAMWORK, RESPECT AND LEADERSHIP.

An exciting development in music education for young people in Ireland is the recent establishment of the IRISH YOUTH TRAINING CHOIR which caters for singers between the ages of 14 and 17 years.

DID YOU KNOW?As there are increasing demands on funds it is THE SUPPORT OF OUR AUDIENCES AND DONORSthat drives the Irish Youth Choir (IYC) to continue to grow and perform to the highest standard.

THE IRISH YOUTH CHAMBER CHOIR was recently developed as the flagship ensemble for the IYC, which is an important step for choral music in Ireland.

Alumni have proceeded to become some of IRELAND’S BEST CONDUCTORS, CHOIR FOUNDERS, SINGERS, TEACHERS, AND MUSICIANS. They include internationally acclaimed singer Julie Feeney, soloists Mairéad Buicke, Bridget Knowles and Robin Tritschler, conductors Bernie Sherlock and Niall Crowley, to name but a few.

“IYC is much more than a choir; it’s the first time in my life I had the opportunity to meet and befriend people who loved to sing as much as I do. I’ve built some wonderful memories and made some fantastic friends for life, none of which would have been possible without this amazing group.”

Mark Tilley, IYCC & IYC Tenor 2013
