IVEDC Unveils the Development of its Aerospace Industry Cluster Starting with Local Unmanned Autonomous System (UAS)

As part of IVEDC's efforts to develop Imperial Valley's aerospace industry cluster, we are working with regional partners from the San Diego Military Advisory Council (SDMAC), Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), San Diego Regional EDC and others to establish the Holtville Airport as 1 of 6 FAA Centers of Excellence for Unmanned Systems. IVEDC has taken the lead to represent the Imperial Valley on this effort along with defense contractors including Northrup Grumman Corporation, General Atomics, Cubic Corporation and Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. We have identified this opportunity as a huge potential to attract new companies and with that, new high paying jobs to the Imperial Valley. There are more than 7,000 personnel currently employed in San Diego that support the Unmanned Autonomous System (UAS) industry and through IVEDC's regional relationships, we stand to benefit from and further support these operations that will make a significant investment to our Valley's economy. Imperial Valley, with ideal flying weather, uncluttered airspace, and rural desert topography, will provide all the necessary assets to support the FAA's UAS mission objectives. For more information, please contact Timothy E. Kelley at [email protected] or

(760) 353-8332.

Cali Baja Bi-National Mega-Region Initiative On Friday, March 22, IVEDC in collaboration with the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, presented an overview of the Cali Baja Bi-National Mega-Region Initiative. The joint meeting of the Borders Committee, the Committee on Binational Regional Opportunities (COBRO), the municipalities of Tijuana, Tecate, Playas De Rosarito and the state of Baja California took place at San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). The Cali Baja Bi-National Mega-Region is comprised of San Diego and Imperial counties, together with Baja California, Mexico. Cali Baja brings together distinct assets in each of its regions to offer incomparable development opportunities for global businesses. Strategic industries presented included cleantech, advanced manufacturing, agribusiness, applied biotech and logistics. Please visit their website at www.calibaja.org. Show Your Support for Homebasing the F-35C Aircraft in El Centro, CA

The Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation supports the Naval Air Facility, El Centro as the base for the Navy's Joint Strike Fighter - F-35C Aircraft.

The economic benefits to the county are staggering with job creation in the thousands as well as benefits to local ancillary businesses that will be able to secure contracting opportunities to support the new expansion of NAF. We have identified several factors proving that NAF El Centro is the best location for homebasing of the Navy's seven F-35C active-duty squadrons and one training squadron. The Imperial Valley's vast unobstructed desert terrain, unique climate, limited non-military air traffic, and its own dedicated gunnery and bombing ranges make NAF El Centro an ideal environment for aerial combat maneuvering, air-to-air gunnery, bombing practice and electronic warfare training. Efficiencies of NAF El Centro to support the mission of the U.S. Department of Defense cannot be duplicated anywhere on the West Coast. Please express your support by leaving your comments on the Navy's Comment Submission page.

CALED's 33rd Annual Growing Local Economies Conference

Each year CALED presents California's largest economic development conference designed to train attendees to implement effective practices to assist businesses and grow local economies. As communities are dealing with the loss of redevelopment, it is time for us to move onward and upward to identify ways of moving local economic development forward. This year's conference is focused on how to fund economic development, best practice models, policy, and professional development. Additionally, we will have engaging networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities. IVEDC will be receiving two awards at the Celebrating Success Luncheon on Thursday, April 11: Programs Award of Merit for the Imperial Valley Renewable Energy Summit Promotions Award of Merit for the Abundant Opportunities Magazine Click HERE for more information.
