Quilt Size : 6  ” x 7”

This cute and quick mini quilt will brighten up a special place in your home. Even the finishing is easy – follow my instructions to stitch down the appliqués and quilt the project at the same time.

This pattern is designed for fusible web appliqué, so the appliqué templates are already reversed foryou. The seam allowance is !”.

1. Trace the appliqué shapes onto the paper side of the fusible web (appliqué templates are at theend of the pattern). Cut out the traced appliqué shapes, leaving !” around all of the traced

outlines. Cut out the centres (window) of body, wings and outer eyes to reduce bulk.

2. Fuse to the wrong side of the appropriate fabrics. Cut out exactly on the traced lines.

Materials  Amount Light fabric #1 (Background) 5"” x 5”

Light Fabric #2 (Body and border) 5” square (Body)1"” x 5"” (Left border)1"” x 6” (Top border)

Purple fabric (Wings, crown and border) 3” x 4” (Wings and crown)1"” x 6 "” (Right border)1"” x 7” (Bottom border)

Yellow-orange fabric (Beak) 1” square

Light Green fabric (Outer eye) 1"” square

Turquoise fabric (Middle eye) 1” square

Dark Green fabric (Inner eye) 1” square

Ribbon or rick rack (Loop) Approximately 8 – 8"” long

Backing and batting 7” x 7"” each

Paper-backed fusible web 6” x 17” (Wonder-under)

Embroidery needle and #8 or #12 perlecotton or embroidery floss in desiredcolour

3. Fold the 5"” x 5” piece of Light fabric #1 into quarters and lightly press. Open it up and use thelines to help centre the appliqué on the background. Remove the paper backing from theappliqué shapes and arrange them, in the following order, on the background fabric:

a. Body

b. Wingsc. Crownd. Beake. Outer eyef. Middle eyeg. Inner eye

4. Fuse the appliqués onto the Light fabric #1 following the manufacturer’s instructions.

5. Take the 1"” x 5"” piece of Light fabric #2 and stitch it to the left side of the background.Press to the border.

6. Take the 1"” x 6” piece of Light fabric #2 and stitch it to the top of the background. Press tothe border.

7. Take the 1"” x 6"” piece of Purple fabric and stitch it to the right side of the background.Press to the border.

8. Take the 1"” x 7” piece of Purple fabric and stitch it to the bottom of the background. Press tothe border.

9. Take the length of ribbon or rick rack and cross the ends over one another and centre on the

right side of the quilt top at the upper edge. Align raw edges together. Tack down with a fewstitches or fabric glue in the seam allowance to temporarily hold it.

10. Layer the batting, quilt top and backing right sides together and align all edges. Ensure that theloop is down between the quilt top and the backing. Stitch around the project, but leave a 4”opening at one side for turning. Clip the corners and turn right side out. Pull the loop up andlightly press the mini quilt. Stitch the opening closed.

11. To fasten the appliqués down, use an embroidery needle and #8 perle cotton or three strandsof embroidery floss. Stitch just inside the appliqué edges with a running stitch. The stitchesshould be 1/8” to !” in length and are intended to be visible.

12. After stitching the appliqués, finish the quilting by stitching in the ditch around the borders,again with the embroidery needle and #8 perle cotton or three strands of embroidery floss. Adda wavy line in the borders.
