LINK TO DELIVERY PROGRAM The relationship with the Delivery Program is as follows: Direction: 4. Our Social Vitality Outcome: 4.3 Enhanced arts and cultural programs and facilities 4.8 Enhanced community facilities, information and services BACKGROUND Community Centre Management Plans are renewed generally once every three years, and reported on annually to Council. They are needed for and form part of the schedules for the leases Council has with Community Centre entities. It is not always possible to meet this cycle precisely as the Plans, if they are to be robust, will include an up to date Strategic Plan, created by the Centres following wide consultation. This is not always possible given the limited resources of the volunteer boards and the pressure arising naturally from the day to day operations of the Centres. CONSULTATION REQUIREMENTS Community engagement will be undertaken in accordance with Council’s Community Engagement Protocol. SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT The sustainability implications were considered and reported on during the initiation phase of this project. DETAIL The Centre’s report covers 18 months following a decision to move to financial year accounting. There was in excess of 6,000 visitors to Nutcote for the period, which included closure for several months from March 2016 for urgent repairs. Highlights of the period included a fund raiser at Macquarie Bank which allowed the Centre to install air-conditioning in the tea room, a visit from Nutcote’s patron the Governor of NSW General David Hurley and his wife Mrs Hurley, a special exhibition “Gumnut goes to War”, and Council’s provision of $200,000 towards repairs of this heritage item. The Nutcote office and records were reorganised during the closure which has helped significantly in several governance issues in recent months. Volunteers (on the Board, in the garden, in the gift shop, the tea room and the office) continue to be a major factor in Nutcote’s success. Following a deficit in 2014 the Centre posted another deficit for the 18 months (Jan 2015-June 2016) of $15,781. This was not an operational deficit as depreciation was $14,581, and is in line with previous years.

ACTING CHAIR'S REPORT

I am very pleased to present my report for the 2016 Nutcote Trust Pty Ltd Annual General Meeting, whichcovers the financial year lrom 2015 to 2016.

We had the pleasure of welcoming some new Directors to the 201512016 Board which included welcomingþack some of May Gibbs family members, Katherine Hopcroft and Dugald Holmes to the board whose adviceand insights are very much appreciated. Also joining us now are Lucy Nasser and Dylan Young, bringing fresheyes to the Board and its evolution.

Sadly we also said goodbye to a few Board members íncluding David Bruce Williams, Sue-Anne Wallace,Caro Webster, Shauna Jarrett and more recently Ruth Banfield has stepped down.

Also because of time served, stepping down at this AGM will be two of our most valued Board members fortheir enormous contributions over the years. Yvonne Royale Hyde and Therese Lake. Yvonne who fought tosave Nutcote in the 90's and had an enormous knowledge of May's life and a continuing involvement andpassion for the protection of May's legacy.

Therese Lake has also contributed so much to Nutcote by editing Nutcote News, giving talks to groups such asADFAS about Nutcote, training new volunteers, creating exhibitions and being an invaluable bedrock ofwisdom and advice to myself as the Acting Chair. Both will be sorely missed from the Board but continue to be part of the Nutcote family.

lngrid Anderson will also be resigning at the AGM from her role as secretary on the Board after a greatcontriþution and commitment to the position.

I will also be resigning from the Board I'm afraid as my normal Film and Television work, Council and a 6month old now consume all of my time ,

I leave though being thankful that I have been fortunate to have worked with such a great Board of Directorsand Manager/Curator who are so passionate and committed to Nutcote and the Legacy of May Gibbs. Duringmy tenure I helped raise a $200,000 grant from Norlh Sydney Council that saw long overdue roof repairs, railing repairs, stonework repairs, Heritage plasterwork, carpentry and the much needed replacing of all thesewer lines carried out.

I will of course continue my 'behind the scenes' advocacy for Nutcote on North Sydney Council into the future.

At this point I should give special thanks to the Mayor, fellow Councillors, Martin Ellis, Duncan Mitchell andsupport staff at North Sydney Council for their continued support of Nutcote , the annual grants and generalfunctioning of it as a whole.

Thanks to our great Curator and Manager Stephanie Lake and staff for continually pushing to better the day today running of Nutcote as well as the experience of May Gibbs and her wonderful gift to us all.

My greatest thanks I have saved for our wonderful heart and soul, ourvolunteers which I should mention includes the Board who are also unpaid, for their amazing dedication, passion and infectious enthusiasm, thank you so much.

It was a year that saw us celebrating May Gibb's Gumnut Babies all year.Beginning with the joint exhibition at Stanton Library which was attended by our previous Patron Dame MarieBashir and our new vice regal Patron his Excellency General The Honorable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret'd) .

There was our hugely popular Gumnut Fair ín November.

There was Media coverage on the ABC show Gardeníng Australia, the play

Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, at the Sydney Opera House the production team of which held a celebration atNutcote with the actors dancing around the garden.

ATTACHMENT TO CLS01 - 20/03/17 Page 12ATTACHMENT TO CLS01 - 20/03/17

Other media coverage included ChannelTen News, The Project, Mosman Daily, The SMH, The Australian and

children's blog sites.

These are just a couple of examples of our year.

It has been a busy and productive year readying us with the ground work to forge forward and continue to

bring the world of May Gibbs and her legacy to the world, again thank you all for your fantastic contributions.

Many thanksCr Stephen BarbourActing ChairNutcote Trust Pty Ltd

MANAGER CU RATORS REPORT

ln reviewing the last 18 months from Janua ry 2OI5 to June 2016 it is a pleasure to see that Nutcote is goingfrom strength to strength, both as a place for the community to enjoy and as a source of inspiration andpleasure to thosd (re)discovering May's life and works. We have also worked hard to build our susta¡nabilitythrough improvements to our Shop and Tea Room products and services and by reviewing and simplifying ourfinancial systems.

We began January 2016 with May's 138th Birthday celebrations. Nutcote's gardens were visited by 52 Scottydogs and visitors celebrating a beautiful summer's day and May's birthday. We had two weddings in thegarden in January and February, both using the garden right down by the Harbour celebrate.

I travelled to Melbourne to visit the very impressive "Romance Was Born" exhibition at the National Galleryof Victoria in Melbourne, which celebrated the Gumnut babies, The fashion range they released was verymuch influenced by May Gibbs' creations and very creative and inspiring.

ln May we launched our "Gumnut Corp goes to War" exhibition which talked about the lconic First World WarPostcards May designed. This exhibition was very moving and I must thank Therese Lake for her hard work incurating this exhibition. The Governor of NSW General David Hurley and his wife Mrs Hurley visited theexhibition and spent quite some time-sharing stories relating to soldiers and war. They are keen to return toNutcote to sit around our piano and sing.

Throughout the year we had Children's Birthday Parties in the garden, Group visits from probus, CommunityCentres, Garden Clubs, schools and church groups. We ran many children's activities including theatreactivities, craft and art days. The year ended with Christmas Carols in the house around the piano with a

special visitor arriving with gifts for the children and a high tea in the garden.

A Life Member and volunteer Linda Evans organised a sold out fundraising event to see Macquarie Bank'sprivate art collection. This raised a substantial amount of money to pay for much needed air conditioning andimprovements in the Tea Room.

Much of the L8 months was taking up with organising major work to the Nutcote house, garden, terraces andoffice. A restoration grant obtained through North Sydney Council required Nutcote to close for three monthsin mid 2016 whilst large parts of the garden were dug up to replace the old sewerage drains, tiles werereplaced on the roof and part of the roof was fixed. Builders had to cut into some of the floorboards to checkif any damage was under the floors (luckily it was not), replace some drummy plaster and re-paint the internalwalls. They also replaced most of the handrails in the garden and replaced the damp-proofing in the upperterrace.

This closure Save the Nutcote Trust the opportunity to do a great deal of behind the scenes work. We had allthe carpets and curtains professionallycleaned as wellas pictures and objects cleaned properly. This majorclean-up was the first time since Nutcote opened to the public in 1994 and made everything inside sparkle!Volunteer Dick Gall also had the chance to re-oil the entire floor whilst the interior was empty. We alsocleared out allthe cupboards and found some hidden treasures.

The closure also gave us time to completely clear out the Education Centre and my office, which is locatedacross the road from the Museum. Volunteer Linda Evans and myself emptied the office of all the (very old)donated furniture, over 140 boxes of memories. Much of the items were items were boxed up for futuresorting out. We thoroughly cleaned the office from top to bottom and then painted the rooms. Linda Evansorganised ergonomic office furniture to be donated by Macquarie Bank and this included archival storage, proper office chairs and desks and much needed filing drawers. Then we started the arduous task of goingthrough all the boxes of items filing, archiving or recycling 25 years worth of paper! I was helped, in large part,

ATTACHMENT TO CLS01 - 20/03/17 Page 14ATTACHMENT TO CLS01 - 20/03/17

by Linda Evans, Therese Lake and, on some occasions, other volunteers to go through allthe boxes. Wediscovered some hidden gems, interesting photographs, bones of dogs (l), large figures of Banksia men, costumes and thousands of letters/cards etc from all the people inspired by May Gibbs who hadvisited Nutcote over the last 20 plus years.

It is critical that we continue to promote Nutcote and May Gibbs so part of my role is to build our profilethrough daily social media posts. This includes posting images of May's art, taking photos around Nutcote ofevents and Nutcote visitors, Naturally, the posts showing May's original art work are always the most popularand a draw card to visitors coming to Nutcote because they have seen a beautiful image on our FacebookPage, Our Facebook Page, @MayGibbsNutcote is the premier social media place people from all over theworld visit to find out about May and her life.

Volunteers Dick Gall and John Stanbridge have been representing Nutcote doing talks about May Gibbs andNutcote. They have given talks to retirement homes, Probus groups, Garden Groups and Board DirectorTherese Lake and Dick Gall also gave a talk at the Historic Houses Association.

I would like to thank the wonderful and hard-working volunteer team at Nutcote who garden, guide, bake, compute, educate, entertain, clean and much more with such passion, professionalism and enthusiasm. ltmakes my job at Nutcote a pleasure and the feedback we recêive is always positive regarding the atmosphereand friendliness of Nutcote.

OUR OBJECTIVES AND AC.TIVITIES

SECTION 3 OUR FINANCES

ACTING TREASURER'S REPORT

Treasurers Report

ln my capacity as Acting Treasurer I would like to present the Treasurers Report. Please take into

consideration the Financial Statements prepared by Hill Rogers being the Auditors for Nutcotä Trust

We note that the reporting period was 18 months long as Nutcote Trust transitioned from Calendar Year to

Financial Year, being I January 2015to 30 June 2016. Each yearthereafterwill be a 12-month period.

Please note that the following factors when comparing the financialfigures between the 2014 and 201512016

reporting periods:

' ln the Profit and.Loss Statement there appears to be an increase in both Revenue and Employee Benefit expenses.

However, when comparing monthly averages rather than reporting periods the monthly averages are reasonably

similar;

' During the20L5/2016 reporting period Nutcote House was closed for a 3-month period due to repairs and

maintenance conducted by North Sydney,

' Nutcote received cornpensation from North Sydney Council for loss of income during the 3-month closure.

. During the 3-month closure income was limited to the online store.

' During the 2015/2016 Nutcote Trust joined the Association for Historical Houses Trust. This means increased

exposure with the inclusion of Nutcote House in the marketing materials to Historical Houses members. Noting also

that members of the Historical Houses Trust receive free entry into Nutcote House.

' A donations-in-kind was made by Macquarie Bank. The donation of office furniture enable the volunteers and staff

to remodelthe Nutcote office.

Major Asset is the Unit at Wallaringa Avenue, Neutral Bay. Typically a source of income the return of

investment has been impacted by increased maintenance, expenses and agency fees.

ln the 201612017 financial year maintenance will continue on Nutcote with immediate attention to rectify

damage in the tearooms and the replacement of garage doors. A fundraiser was also conducted to raise

money for the installation of air conditioning in the tearooms, it is anticipated that the air conditioners can be

installed after the rectification works.

Yours sincerely,

Lucy NasserActing Treasurer, May Gibbs' Nutcote

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

We are preparing for 2018 and the celebrations of 100 years of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie which will includesome joint activities with community groups. May Gibbs' iconic illustrated book has been in publication since1917.

We will ensure that Nutcote's Strategic Plans meets Norlh Sydney Council's amalgamation priorities andfocus.

We are focusing our efforts on our continued development of Nutcote's social media pages with a goal thatincludes ensuring that regular posts are updated on our website. The website is in the process of beingupdated to simplify processes and make it more relevant. We want to make sure our website continues toreflect May Gibbs and her glorious illustrations.

More community activities are planned including family days, talks, sing-alongs in the house, joint activitieswith other community organisations, bush walks and high tea as well as our regular popular events (May'sbirthday celebrations, the Gumnut Fair).

The money raised from the above functions will be used for risk mitigation activities at Nutcote that includecreating a better working environment in the Tea Room and replacing the doors into the Gift Shop forimproved safety and security.

Additional funding, when available will be used to build programs that encourage children's activities throughnature and stories. We want some of these completed in preparation for the centenary that will take place in2018.

Over the next few years we will further build our relationships with our community and our supporters includingour Friends of Nutcote.

We will continue to invest in our volunteers and staff through growing their knowledge and excitement in MayGibbs' world so that they, in turn, can build our visitors' engagement, enjoyment and understanding of MayGibss' life at her home, Nutcote.

We are looking to increase revenue through investments of our key Nutcote facilities such as the Tea Roomand Gift Shop to ensure the longevity of Nutcote and May's Australian legacy for all to experience and enjoy inperpetuity.
