Kia ora koutou. Nga mihi nui ki te whanau o te kura Puketapu.

Hello to parents and caregivers.

We have had a couple of good winter days this week! How lucky we are living in Taranaki and having that maunga showing its true splendour. Keep warm and get out and do stuff as usual. That physical activity soon warms you up.

Park that car down at the end of Dillon Drive and let your tamariki walk from the corner. Scoot, walk or bike is what we need to do. It warms you up and keeps the front of school safer for everyone.

Thank you for the Teachers Only Day last Friday. We know for some TOD’s are a pain however it was very necessary for what we had to do.

Mid-year interview /conferences are next week. Expect some discussion papers home this Friday. Have a korero with your tamariki as to what they are learning and the next steps. Make an appointment to see the class teacher together and then set some goals together for the rest of the year, to be worked together. It ’s all part of building a strong home and school partnership and very important for everyone to take part.

There is an online questionnaire through survey monkey that we are asking everyone to contribute to. If you haven’t already, please give it some time as we need to know what you are thinking and to map out the years ahead.

The Year 5 and 6’s are hosting Mangorei School this Thursday. Games should get under way about 12:45pm. Last week we had a win in football and netball against Waitara East and the rugby team achieved their goal. Keep working hard teams.

Enjoy the rest of your week and we hope to see you as part of the Book Carnival next week.

Sweet As! Who is in control of what we eat?

Oh the maths!

New Zealander's on average eat 37 teaspoons of sugar

per person per day. The recommended amount is six

teaspoons a day for adults and for children just three

teaspoons. Shockingly, a can of sugary drink contains

three days worth of sugar for a child!

The number one source of sugar in the Kiwi diet is from

sugary drinks which are associated with tooth decay,

obesity and type 2 diabetes.

More than 1.1 million Kiwi adults are now obese and 11% of

children. A further 20% are classified as overweight.

Around 6000 children under 12 had general anaesthetics

last year to have teeth removed because of dental

decay. More than 40% of five year olds are still suffering

dental decay.

Something to think about...
