• Overall, Bluetooth technology is forecast to see strong growth in professional healthcare locations as an
MBAN (Medical Body Area Network) technology.
• As its low power functionality is exploited, Bluetooth Smart devices will replace Classic Bluetooth
devices.
• Bluetooth annual shipments are expected to be restricted somewhat in the professional healthcare setting
because in this environment, the requirement for mobile phone connectivity from sensors is lower.
Potential Future Growth Markets for
Bluetooth Technology
• ElectroCardioGraph (ECG)
• Glucose meters
• Oximeters
• Other patient monitoring devices

• Remote healthcare, including remote patient monitoring (RPM) and home monitoring, is another major
growth area for Bluetooth technology.
• Initial growth in Bluetooth Smart wearable sensors for the RPM market will lag those in the sports and
fitness and home monitoring markets given the degree of device certification required by healthcare
regulators around the world and the requirement for broad scale healthcare adoption of RPM applications.
Potential Future Growth Markets for
Bluetooth Technology
• Personal Emergency Response Systems
(PERS)
• Ambient Assisted Living (AAL)
