Student News It’s a Wrap! Bandaging Lab at UC Davis The annual CVMA Bandaging Lab for UC Davis veterinary students took place on May 7, 2013, providing an opportunity for 50 second- and third-year students to gain hands-on experience in bandaging techniques. Led by Drs. Robert Richardson (canine) and Marianne Brick (avian/exotics), bandaging, casting, wing wrapping, and other techniques were demonstrated on a variety of dogs, birds, and reptiles. Students were then able to practice these techniques on their own dogs, who patiently allowed their limbs to be wrapped up in brightly colored bandaging material before teetering around on their new legs. The students are grateful to Dr. Robert Richardson, Dr. Marianne Brick, and Dr. Julie Meadows (faculty advisor) for generously donating their time and expertise to help students with their bandaging skills. The CVMA hosted the event, which provides a valuable teaching experience to students. The CVMA also donated the leftover bandaging material to the Mercer Clinic for the Pets of the Homeless. The event was a success thanks to the generous support of sponsors JorVet, 3M Animal Care, Butler Schein Animal Health, and Covidien Animal Health. Also, Jorgensen Laboratories’ representative Lori Caldwell provided assistance at the lab. The CVMA’s Laura Phillips organized the event. July/August 2013 | 37 CV67_4.indb 37 7/11/13 1:21 PM
