Strategic Priority 1

•  Maintain and enhance IT computing and networking and server infrastructure to provide access to services and data for all constituencies at the University.

Performance Target and Performance Indicators for Strategic Priority Statement 1:

•  Availability and performance are the two basic metrics used in measuring computing and networking services. IST targets are 99.5% availability of the network and performance of systems to industry standards.

•  University management should have access on demand to reports from corporate data as needed and in formats that are usable.

• Backup VM facility and SAN

• Additional FTE for network support

• Additional FTE for wireless network support

• Additional FTE for Unix support

• Additional FTE for Web 2.0 support

• New admin systems – Banner student aid, IDM, management tools

Strategic Priority 2

•  Improve support of new technologies in teaching including provision of current technology in classrooms, learning management systems, course tools and the use of social networking modalities in the learning experience.

Performance Indicators for Strategic Priority 2

•  Instructors at the University will have access to software and tools which will allow them to measure student progress, manage and deliver course materials online and communicate with their students asynchronously through the use of many technologies.

•  Students will have 24/7 access to their online learning environment and to tools which will allow them to get course material and interactively communicate with their instructors and their peers.

•  Statistics are collected on audio visual bookings, usage and trouble tickets to provide accurate measures of usage and suitability of equipment.

• Additional FTE to support technology in classrooms

• Additional FTE to support learning management systems

• Evergreening installed and portable A/V equipment

•  Provide and support new research technologies, especially in the area of high performance computing

•  Researchers at the University will have access to a suite of HPC facilities ranging from compute clusters to the planned very large Westgrid facility.

• Add to the existing compute clusters used by graduate students

• Install and support the Westgrid HPC facility

• Implement additional research management software

•  Provide 24/7 access to all systems and build a redundant fault tolerant IT infrastructure.

•  All systems should be available to clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This requires redundant systems and infrastructure for critical components.

•  The University will also have a plan for disaster recovery for IT.

• Second data centre of about 1,000 square feet

• New data storage facilities for data replication and backup

• Additional FTE for storage management

• Administrative Systems review of system architecture
