In addition to the junior cricket developments, adults have been catered for with a team entered in the senior Thames Valley competition. An enthusiastic group of cricketers have come out of the woodwork to pit their skills and abilies against the best the Peninsula has to offer. The season launch last week saw senior cricket return to Cory Park Domain after an absence of some seventeen years! The Tairua Sngrays, a rather international looking bunch, captained by Glen Crowe, took the field against Mercury Bay Barracudas to play a 30-over match. Winning the toss, Tairua put the Barracudas in to bat first, confident they could chase down any total set. According to the match reporter and player, Leon Smith, the Sngrays, through a combinaon of clever bowling and “world-class” fielding which included a “catch of the century,” restricted the Barracudas to an innings total of 176, all out in the twenty- ninth over! As it turned out the Stingrays’ confidence in chasing down a total was well- founded. Leon’s version of the run chase tells of “big hiers”, “able support”, “maturity and skill”, and “steady knocks”; the Sngrays winning with an over and a half to spare! The next home game for the Sngrays will be this Sunday 22 November. Take your deck chair along and enjoy some home-grown sport! To spur further interest and give the team more exposure (and practice) fun evenings of social cricket are being organised. The first game will be the Sngrays versus Tairua Pauanui Sports Fishing Club, which will be played at Cory Park Domain under lights, December 4th (date TBC)! Word from the Board Chairperson, Warwick Brooks “It’s great to see the Tairua skate facility is now moving forward. Our two towns were buzzing over Labour Weekend, and is a good indication of what summer will be like. The rain we have over spring is a good reminder to start thinking about collecting rainwater ahead of another potentially long, dry summer as water restrictions start to kick in. We need everyone’s co-operation and support to use water wisely and pull through the summer peak period.” [email protected]

Tairua skate facility – A Certificate of Compliance has now been lodged for the Cory Park site. In the meantime please tell us what you think of the concept design by filling out the survey on our website before it closes on Friday 4 December. You can also find out more information about sponsorship opportunities – tcdc.govt.nz/tairuaskate

Pepe toilets, Tairua – Our Council received $412,000 from the Tourism Infrastructure Fund towards construction of a new toilet facility at Pepe Reserve, Tairua, which was scheduled to be completed ahead of the peak summer period. The work is now delayed and starting after 7 February 2021 (after Waitangi Day) due to the impact of COVID-19 on our infrastructure programme with two factors in play: A supply chain problem for the toilet contractor securing equipment. A back-log in the planned construction programme while the contractor finishes other planned works scheduled ahead of this project. The current facility is still completely functional and meets health and safety requirements. As a busy facility, it is one that will be cleaned more regularly over the peak summer period, thanks to the grant from the Government’s Responsible Camping Fund.

News from Thames-Coromandel District Council 18 November, 2020

We’re anticipating another long, dry summer, so why not get set up now to store some of the Spring rainfall we’ve been having?

Many properties are suitable for installing a rainwater storage tank for outdoor use. It’s perfect for cleaning the car or boat and watering gardens and lawns.

Go to our website for more details and any regulatory criteria you might need to keep in mind: tcdc.govt.nz/rainwatercollection

The Long Term Plan sets our Council’s financial priorities, key projects and levels of service in detail for the next three years, with a longer-term view out to 10 years. You’ve already told us to pack light, so we’re planning a core business budget to build and maintain the essentials such as roads, water, wastewater and stormwater services, rubbish and recycling, parks and reserves.

We’ll be holding a formal consultation on the details of the proposed 2021-2031 LTP in March next year, but to help us prepare the LTP packing list, we want to hear from you about what you want to take on the journey.

In particular, we want your thoughts on:

• Who pays? Increased user fees and charges.

• Rubbish and recycling – changes to our service and the charges for what we provide.

• Tourism promotion – changes to how we fund and

support this.

• Increased rates for local projects – would you support?

• Thames replacement pool – for those in Thames ward: Would you be willing to pay additional local rates for the replacement pool?

Take our short survey on these topics now until 4 December on our website at tcdc.govt.nz/longtermplan2021

Shoreline Management PlansMembers of our new Coastal Panels have toured our district, looking at areas of current and future risk of coastal inundation, erosion, and sea level rise. Find out more at tcdc.govt.nz/coastalpanels
