Paul Valese - Head of College

Over the past 2 weeks, every staff

member has undergone a Staff

Review. 145 reviews were done which

took 7 entire days. The reviews have

been an important part of planning for

2016, but more importantly speaking

to staff about the mission of the

College has been incredibly

encouraging.

Term 3 can become a grind. The cold

weather, illness, thinking of the

following year and pressures of

assessment can all become

overwhelming to the point of

questioning, ‘what is this all about?’

The Staff Reviews answered this

question over and over again – to

prepare students for life in the world

and eternity.

Staff are committed to preparing your

children for the future. After

individually sitting and talking with all

145 staff, this was the clear message

from everyone.

Mueller College is unashamedly

Christian and ‘to prepare students for

life in the world and eternity’ is only

half the mission statement. The

second half of the mission statement

is to prepare students ‘through Biblical

principles in a distinctly Christian

environment’. We are blessed to have

a Gospel focussed staff who are

passionate about seeing students

discover who they are and where they

fit in to the world.

Excellent education is key to all we

do. The overall purpose of the reviews

was to ensure that we continue to

provide an excellent education and

find areas of refinement for 2016.

The next few years are going to be an

exciting time at Mueller. We are

committed to providing the best in

Christian education to grow the next

generation.

PRIMARY NEWS

MUELLER PRIMARY ATHLETICS TEAM

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to Erika and Trent Newton for their outstanding achievements at the

Southern Cross International Judo Championships held last week. Erika was awarded

First place. Also, in the Australian National Judo Championships, held in June this

year in Wollongong, Erika claimed 3rd

place. Earlier in the year the siblings claimed

1st and 2

nd in their respective age groups in the Queensland international Open Judo

Championships.

Both Erika and Trent have achieved some great results this year, and we wish them

all the best for their upcoming Queensland State Championships in Innisfail next week.

Well done!

A huge CONGRTULATIONS to our Mueller Primary Athletics Team, for coming out the 2105 Redcliffe District

Athletics Champion School!

The district athletics carnival was held last Thursday and Friday 13th & 14th August. We sent 48 students to compete

over the 2 days, and 15 of those students got selected for the district team to compete at regionals. This is the first

time Mueller Primary has won a district athletics carnival, so what a huge achievement. Every student involved

should be very proud. Well done!

TUCKSHOP ORDERS

Dear Parents, it would be much appreciated if you are able to send the correct money with your child’s tuckshop

order (or as close as possible). If in the event you need to send a $20 note or larger, and your child’s order will result

in needing more than $10 change, this amount will be kept at the tuckshop for collection by the parent and will not be

sent home with the child. There have been recent occasions where the excessive change has been given to the

child but has not reached home. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

We have had a few cases of Impetigo (school sores) recently.

QLD Health Guidelines state that children should stay home from school or day care until they have received

appropriate antibiotics for at least 24 hours. Weeping or crusted sores on exposed areas should always be covered

with a watertight dressing for as long as practical.

What is Impetigo? - Impetigo is an infection of the skin caused by bacteria. These bacteria can live on the

skin, in the throat or nose, or on other parts of the body without causing a problem but sometimes they start to cause

an infection such as impetigo. Impetigo is not usually a serious infection, but it is easily spread.

Impetigo can occur on healthy skin but it often happens when the skin has already been damaged by a scratch, bite

or other sore.

Signs and Symptoms - Impetigo may start with a blister or a group of blisters. The blister bursts leaving a patch of

red, wet skin which weeps. The spot usually becomes coated with a tan or yellowish crust, making it look like it has

been covered with honey.

Impetigo is usually itchy.

How is it spread? - The sore is itchy and children can scratch it, often spreading the infection to nearby skin

or to other parts of their own body. The fluid and crusts of the sore contain the bacteria. Contact with the sore or with

things that have been on the sore (e.g. clothing, dressings, towels etc.) can spread the infection to other people.

Treatment – A child with impetigo needs to be checked by a doctor to be sure that it is impetigo; and because some-

times an antibiotic medicine is prescribed. Try to prevent your child scratching the sores as much as possible. Cover

the sores with a watertight dressing and cut your child's fingernails. Continue medical treatment until all sores are

healed.

For further information on minimum exclusion periods for infectious conditions, please see https://

Are you facing challenges that you’re struggling to make sense of? Are you experiencing life changes, transitions or

loss? Loss is something we all experience sometime in our lives. Loss isn’t just losing somebody close, but can

include loss of home, relationship, job, health, dreams and expectations to name a few. Counselling allows a safe

place to voice your thoughts, fears and feelings. Voicing them to another often enables you to see things from a

different perspective.

Friends and family members can be a great support to us, but are often unable to provide an objective point of view.

A counsellor won’t tell you what to do, but may help you consider choices, decisions and changes to enable you to

live your life more fully. Counselling doesn’t need to be long-term – in fact a single session may be all that’s needed.

Sometimes, though, more is needed over a period of weeks or months. We all differ, face different circumstances

and have differing needs, so respect and confidentiality are assured.

Mueller Community Church Counsellor, Jenny Billingham is available for parents, families, students and

staff at Mueller College.

Phone 3897 2706 or 0427 876 396 for an appointment. (Please leave a message if the phone is unattended

and your call will be returned at the earliest convenience).
