Good morning everyone,
We are aware that many of our members are interested in being part of the new BLS Committee. Further information regarding elections will be released in February and election week will run late March.
Remember, to be eligible to run for committee you can be in any year group and can study a law or non-law course. Please note that you must be a member to run for a position. Keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks and we’ll keep you updated right here in the newsletter, the Facebook page and the website!

There will be an information evening on Tuesday in the Ram at 7pm.
Here we will let you know what the itinerary for the trip is and it'll give you a chance to meet the other BLS members
coming on the trip. There will be curly fries involved.
It is an opportunity for you all to ask questions about the trip.
We will also require you to complete a GLS Medical Form (you will need to know the name and address of your doctor and information of any medication you are taking regularly) -
These forms will be provided and collected by us.

can find all details about the committee, details regarding the latest events as well as law firm profiles!
There will be many new features coming to the website, including the online editions of Obiter Dicta available for download as well as legal careers advice from the BLS.

This term members will have the opportunity to hear from local practising Barristers, attend dining sessions at the Inn’s of Court, and attend pupillage fairs.
Registration for the prestigious Bracton Law Society Annual Debating Competition is now open. This is a fantastic opportunity to take part in competitive debating as no prior experience is required.
Registration closes at 2100 21st of January 2016.

Where: Ram, Devonshire HouseWhat: On Wednesday 27 January, Bracton Law Society’s Pro Bono in Practice group will be hosting a pub quiz at the Ram. This event is aiming to raise money for the Bar Pro Bono Unit (BPBU) and LawWorks, both of which provide free legal advice to those
are unable to afford lawyers’ fees.
You are free to come either in groups or individually. As this marks the first fundraising event this term for the aforementioned charities, it would be great to see as many of you supporting us as possible! Entry is £3 per person. All proceeds go to charity.

New Mooting Opportunity - are you interested in EU Law? apply to represent Exeter and BLS at this year's EU Law Moot hosted by Warwick. This is the perfect opportunity to revise EU Law, or to get a
head start on EU Law, in a relaxed mooting competition.

The Human Rights Brigade to Panama will take place from 18th-24th June, where the volunteers will support Global Brigades Staff and Panamanian lawyers in providing free legal counsel and the opening
of family cases in communities without access to legal resources, while at the same time providing educational workshops on pertinent human rights issues such as domestic violence. Before the end of
last term, some volunteers did some fundraising in the High Street, raising over £180.

This session will not only give you an insight into a core skill for a commercial solicitor, it should also help you with any contract or drafting exercise you encounter on Open Days, vacation schemes and during training contract

A brilliant game for BLS V this week against Geog Soc WINNING 14 - 5 - our opposition was strong but our
defence was solid and played absolutely brilliantly. It was great to see such a high standard of netball being played consistently down the entire court, very proud captains!
Let's hope the success continues!
Another brilliant game for BLS X WINNING 23- 6 to Mary Queen of Shots. Thanks to everyone who played amazing
effort from all who played!(Just to remind everyone that there will be no training this
week - still matches - and training will resume as normal on the 29th of Jan)
The BLS had a successful first weekend back. A great performance in the first game ended in a 7 - 1 WIN, with 3 tries from Rob Akerele-Miles, 2 from James Russ and 1 from Sian Burns. The second game against "Try Hards" was a
closer match and was 0-0 at half time. However a brilliant second half performance helped the BLS to win 3-0, with 2 tries from Oly Smith and 1 from Rob again. Man of the match goes to Rob for some amazing tries and an all around
great performance!
There was no match this week due to poor weather.
