Lisa Sherrin, Call Centre Manager...

As most of you reading this will know, we were recently fundraising for a little boy called Alec who was fighting a rare brain tumour. On Saturday 5th February we managed to put a big smile on his beautiful face when myself and a few of the fundraising team visited Alec at home. We had organised the official opening of what he called ‘Alec’s Pad’. It was a wonderful day and Alec and all his family and friends were so grateful. I would like to say a very BIG thank you to everyone who, one way or another, helped to fundraise for this dream to come true for Alec.

Sadly, on Sunday 20th February, Alec had to be admitted to hospital and on Tuesday 22nd February he was moved to Helen House Children’s Hospice where he continued to fight his battle with cancer until Tuesday 8th March when he fell asleep.

This brave little man will hold a special place in all of our hearts at the Lennox, forever.

On a personal note, sometimes in life somebody special comes along and makes you realise that all the hard work is so worthwhile - Bless you Alec. With love,

Vicky Nash, Care Grants and Respite Breaks… Happy Holidays! We certainly hope so. Earlier this year we began the search for a new holiday home and we now have a brand new six berth Luxury caravan on Coopers Beach Holiday Park in Mersea Island, Essex.

This park has kids clubs, heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a fabulous entertainment programme, everything that families will need to enjoy a week of relaxation and respite.

We are already taking bookings and are confident that each and every family that has a respite break at Coopers Beach will have a happy holiday and create some amazing memories that will last a life time.

Thank you to everyone who has fundraised or donated to the Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund recently, including:

4 June 2011

I am delighted to have been appointed as the new Events Manager at the Lennox and would like to say a BIG thank you to Vincent, our CEO, for this fantastic opportunity and to the whole fundraising department for welcoming me and making me feel at home.

It is my mission over the coming months to rapidly increase the number of fundraising events within the community and to get everyone involved with the Lennox.

One event that I am particularly excited to get you all talking about, and more importantly taking part in, is ‘The £1000 Challenge’. Simply choose a challenge of your choice and aim to raise £1000 – as soon as you hit £1000 you complete your challenge! We already have six challenges in place for the next couple of months so come on board and get involved!

There are many, many other ways that you can raise money for the Lennox – the £1000 Challenge is just one! We would love to hear your ideas and suggestions and if you would like to be involved and have any ideas for a fundraising event in your area… please give me a call.

I hope you all have a fantastic summer and I hope to see you all at an event coming soon near you! Love and light, Laura

Brave Jimmy Low agreed to shave his full head of hair for charity if friends and family donated £1000 in sponsors. Immediately, the donations started pouring in and within a few weeks the £1000 target was hit!

Being a man of his word, Jimmy headed to his local hairdressers to honour his promise and undergo a very close shave.

Do you think you could follow in Jimmy’s footsteps and raise £1000 with a challenge?

Call Laura on 01708 734366 to discuss your ideas

Mother and daughter, Jane and Rebecca Lloyd, teamed up to run the Brentwood 5k Fun Run in March.

Pre race preparation included swimming for Rebecca and two glasses of red wine for Jane! Both completed the race in less than 35 minutes and together they raised over £1000! Fantastic!

Joe Stenning and the Dengie 100 Runners who raised £630.80 by running

13 miles on 10th April.

Super Trophy Dog Championships raised

£120 through donations at the entrance and a raffle.

26.2 MILES TO BE PROUD OF

Although new to marathon running, Laurence Harton completed the 26.2 mile Brighton Marathon in a

respectable 4hrs 30mins!

An unusually warm April day with very little breeze

made it even more of a challenge for Laurence and

his fellow runners.

Laurence raised a staggering £2250, most

of which was from friends and family visiting his

online JustGiving page.

After the marathon, Laurence posted online: ‘Whilst I enjoyed the day tremendously, the real

focus was the fundraising’.

RUNNING, RACING AND RAISING

REACHING ON UP DANCE SHOW Annette and Sam Edwards worked tirelessly to put together a fantastic dance show at Broadway Theatre in Barking and raised £710 from ticket sales, a raffle and bucket collection on the night. Lennox’s new Events Manager Laura O’Connor went along and was truly impressed by the talented students of Reaching On Up Dance School.

Gravesend Spiritualist Church who did various collections and raised £225.

Extra special thanks to the Ladies Bingo Team and Maureen Rose and family who

raised £75 in memory of Cyril Rose.

On 7th May, Jelly Beans Pre School Day Nursery held a Fun Day to mark the opening of their new sensory room and thought it fitting that the funds raised should go to a children’s charity. Their many stalls included face painting, tombola, lucky dip, hook-a-duck, a BBQ, an ice cream van and various other stalls which together raised over £600!
