1 Walt addressed a group of individuals in Charlotte (NC), who under the leadership of Davis Kuykendall of Search Ministries are headed for Israel this fall.2 Walt was privileged to emcee the Chick-Fil-A Leadercast held in Laurens (SC). Pictured (l-r) is co-host Bobby Mitchell, Walt, and officers of the Fellowship of Companies For Christ Int’l, President Terence Chatmon and the Director of Business Operations Frank Vann. The person in the middle brought lunch to those in attendance.3 It was Walt’s privilege to once again address those who gathered at the Ocean City Tabernacle (NJ). The Tabernacle, established over 100 years ago and directed by Dr. Richard Stanislaw, is a non-denominational summer worship service for vacationers and residents.4 Under the leadership of Robby Bowers (2nd from right) a group of businessmen gather in his home to study and discuss the Bible and its role in their lives. It was Walt’s privilege to address this group. Pictured are some who attended.

5 The Cetera Network Conference was held at the Gaylord Hotel, Nashville (TN). Christians who participate in this nationwide event have organized a Sunday fellowship meeting attended by over 100 people. The fellowship is overseen by Seattle resident, Glenn Mars. It was Walt’s privilege to speak at the gathering, and he and Patti are pictured in the lobby of the hotel with Glenn and his wife Dianna. 6 Walt had the privilege of speaking to the Charlotte Eagles Soccer Club at their chapel meeting prior to one of their games. Pictured are a few of the players along with Head Coach Mark Steffens (in the blue shirt). 7 Walt presented WWE’s leadership seminar, The Look of the Leader, to an audience at Church at Charlotte (NC).8 Walt addressed the employees of Welcomemat Services of Atlanta as they retreated at Lake Lanier (GA). Pictured with Walt and Patti are President Brian Mattingly and his wife Michelle.9 Walt was privileged to share in the morning services at Nappannee (IN) Missionary Church. Each week these gentlemen host an early morning Bible study attended by others in the building business. It was Walt’s privilege to lead the group for a number of weeks showing WWE’s video series, A Glimpse of the Land, A Look at Your Heart.

Editor’s note: I am aware of the title of this section of The Winner, “The Wit and Wisdumb of Walt Wiley.” I want you to know that this article is void of any “wit”. It won’t make you smile, you’ll never go ha or hahaha, not even a teehee. “Wisdumb?” You be the judge.

When the idea of an organization was simply a thought and something to talk about, I found myself one day with former major league baseball player Brett Butler in the home of a man who was suffering from cancer. The gentleman seemed delighted that we—especially Brett—had come, and his entire countenance seemed to perk up. Afterwards Brett and I sat in his driveway and I commented that the fact he had taken the time to visit seemed to bring a great deal of encouragement to the man. Brett, who also felt encouraged, agreed with me and said, “That’s what this organization should be about: encouraging people.” Presto: Winning With Encouragement.

I just saw a video of a man who said what I have been saying for years. There isn’t anything any of us need more than encouragement. All around you are people who are just hoping they make it. Many of them have lost hope and any sort of optimism and they are discouraged. You and I have the opportunity to be an agent of change by intentionally stepping into their lives to inspire them, spur them on, motivate and encourage them.

Do you know one way you can do that without giving up any time or money, or by doing anything or saying a word? Watch the way you live because you can encourage many around you by the choices you make. Behave yourself. Conduct yourself in a manner that is consistent with all you claim to believe and follow.

I don’t know if I have a favorite verse from the Bible, but one that has always intrigued me is what Paul said to the people of Colossae found in Colossians 2:6. One version puts it this way: “As

you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.” Another rendition of these few words comes out like this: “Now that you have put your trust in Christ, let Him lead you in every step.” The Message puts it succinctly: “You received Christ Jesus the Lord, now live Him.”

Paul is talking to Christians, people who made a decision to put their old life behind them and enter into a relationship with Christ. To me he is saying, now that you have done that, make sure you are careful about how you behave. My translation would be: In that you now acknowledge Christ as your Savior, behave yourself. That’s good, isn’t it?

We have always heard that actions speak louder than words. Gandhi said: “Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony.” Arthur Freed chimed in with this astute observation: “Don’t try to be different. Just be good. To be good is different enough.” And I love how Mark Twain put it: “Always do right, it will gratify some people and astonish the rest.”

All of us have experienced some degree of encouragement ourselves as we have watched others make the right choices and be consistent with what they said was important to them. The encouraged parent is the one who has seen their son or daughter make choices consistent with the convictions they hoped their child held dear.

Hey, behave yourself today. I don’t know who said it but it’s true: Your life may be the only Bible some people read.
