Jim NicholsJim Nichols grew interested in fiction writing while working as a ticket agent for a commuter airline in Rockland, Maine. Born in Brunswick and raised in Freeport, Nichols has worked variously as bartender, pilot, skycap, taxi driver, fence builder, orange picker, travel agent and dispatcher for an air taxi service. His writing, which draws from his many experiences, has appeared in numerous regional and national magazines including Esquire, Narrative, From The Ashes (BR), The Clackamas Review, American Fiction, River City, and Night Train. He has been nominated several times for Pushcart prizes, and his first novel, Hull Creek, was runner-up for the 2012 Maine Book Award for Fiction. Nichols now lives in Warren, Maine with his wife, Anne, and their two rescue dogs, Brady and Jessie. They have two grown sons, Aaron and Andrew. Nichols still works occasionally for Penobscot Island Air.

Jada FitchJada Fitch grew up in a family-built log cabin in Sebago, Maine. She spent much of her childhood doing craft projects, attending art classes, and building forts at her grandparent’s Fitch’s General Store. She later earned a BFA in illustration from the Maine College of Art and then spent a couple years soaking up the sun in Los Angeles before returning to Maine. Fitch has also done work for the Humane Society, Cambridge University Press, Esquire, Reals of Fantasy and Appleseeds magazines. She now lives in Portland with her husband, Philip and dog, Daisy. When she’s not at her desk drawing, she’s usually out birding, or knitting and watching nature documentaries.

tom heNNesseyTom Hennessey is one of Maine’s best-loved sporting artists and outdoor writers. He is the author of two previous books, Feathers ‘n Fins and Handy to Home, and his illustrations have appeared in numerous publications, including Field & Stream, Bangor Daily News, and Harris Publications of New York Sporting Magazines. liza kleiNmaNLiza Kleinman says that some time around the age of six, she decided to be a writer, and she has stuck with it ever since. She wrote fiction throughout her childhood on Long Island, New York, and kept at it in college and graduate school. Her first short story was published in Redbook while she was living in Bloomington, Indiana. She published a few more short stories, and wrote for a nonprofit organization that was creating an online elementary school curriculum. After moving to Portland, Maine, she continued to work as a freelance writer, mostly doing language arts educational materials, but occasionally other work, as well. She has written for a business that makes mystery parties for kids, created a logic puzzle for Highlights, and sold a joke to a greeting card company. Her fiction has appeared in several magazines, including Fifth Wednesday Journal, Crossborder, Hayden’s Ferry Review, and Portland Magazine.

Smith is an outdoor writer, an award-winning newspaper columnist, television show host, and former executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, the state’s largest sportsmen’s organization. He writes monthly columns for The Maine Sportsman magazine, a weekly editorial-page column for central Maine’s two daily newspapers, and a blog for BDN Maine. He is co-host of a weekly television show called Wildfire, a talk show now in its 11th year, focused on conservation and environmental issues and seen on Time Warner cable stations throughout the state and the internet (www.wildfiremaine.tv). He is the father of three children and grandfather of two boys. In addition to his family, his interests include hunting, fishing, birding, writing, reading, and eating. He is very fond of Maine’s micro-brews.
