We want to send out a big THANK YOU to all those who gave our Celebration Center a much-needed, fresh and colorful paint job! Jeff and Mary Porter led the way and completed all the trim and detailing, while C.W. and Pebble Jo Brown, Jean DeVries, Larry & Jan Duford, and Bill & Darlene Keizer pitched in with rollers and brushes for the walls. (Jean was also the unofficial messenger, relaying information and purchase requests to the office staff!) The end result is BEAUTIFUL - how fortunate IITS is to have such great Winter Texan servants in our midst!

New Prayer Group FormedNew Prayer Group Formed One of the newest groups at Island in the Son is called the Tuesday Morning Prayer Geese. Since the first of the year the “Geese” have met from 10:00 to 11:00 AM for the express purpose of praying for our church and for the concerns of our members. If you have a prayer request, please record it Sunday morning on a purple card found in the chair pockets in the Celebration Center so that the “Geese” may include it during their hour of prayer. You, no doubt, are curious about the name! It comes from the poem called "Dance in the Sky" by Joyce Rupp.
Flickers of movement in an early dusk sky, long lines of activity filling the horizon. Dancing they come, the fast flying geese, hearts bent on heading south. No sound from their dance, no chorus of conversation, just swiftly moving and an ever changing formation. The lines curve and sway. Turn and re-form, they half circle and straighten, sweep out in fans, come back again to singleness. The dance of the geese becomes a dance in my soul, activity, movement, ease, joy, a strong sense of purpose and determined direction. The dance in my soul, may it be so, like the geese, with great freedom of adventure and sure hope of arrival.
Members take turns leading the group and share inspiration through scripture, music, art, poetry, readings and candlelight. New members are welcome! For more information call Alice Marks (749-7163).
Mission Ministry Mission Ministry
MomentMoment The Mission Ministry at Island in the Son is alive and well and is continuing its mission to help those in need.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Imagine No Malaria campaign by giving donations to help buy bed nets
and medications for the people affected by malaria in Africa. This campaign was very successful and is sure to be a big help to many people in Africa. Our No Malaria campaign will continue with new projects in the future so that we may help meet the goal of No Malaria by the year 2015.
The Mission Ministry continues to help the people at Timon's Ministry and the children at the El Sendero school in Mexico.
Another need that our church and the world is currently facing is the earthquake disaster in Haiti. The United Methodist Church has and will continue to help those in need in Haiti. Thank you to everyone who helped with monetary donations to help the victims of this disaster in Haiti.
I ran across an old Chinese Proverb the other day: "The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” This made me think of all the great people in our congregation at Island in the Son. We all help in small ways either by our monetary donations or by volunteering our gifts to help those in need. We are the people moving the small stones and are blessed to be God's hands to help others in need. Mission opportunities are endless and there will always be a need to help others. Folks, we can and are moving mountains with everyone's help! Thank you!
In Christ's Name, Brent Curtis
Feb. 10, 2010 Email from Rev. Fred Vanderwerf, Hilltop United Methodist Church, Mankato MN
Dana, I wanted to let you know that you have snow bird of ours [Ed. note: he’s referring to Carolyn Allen] down in your church that absolutely loves what you’re doing in ministry down there. She sent me your newsletter this month and I see that she has a testimonial in it about the prayer bear ministry she brought from your church to ours. It’s been a hit!
I am telling you that you are doing things right. I am amazed at your incredible activity in your newsletter. But it seems more than just activity for activity’s sake - it seems like it is really reaching people and establishing the Kingdom of God.
Also, wanted to tell you that I love the glossy insert where you divided your ministry areas into four parts and then laid out a beautiful brochure with testimonies of what you are doing and then subtly but to the point laid out the cost. I am passing this on to our stewardship team. Thanks for blessing us up here. Be God's, Pastor Fred

March is usually thought of as coming in like a lion, but as I look over the past two months at Island in the Son, I do believe that lion arrived in January! I hope you have noticed the new opportunities cropping up in our ministry and missions. I want to take some time to highlight some of them and offer heart felt praise and THANKS.
By the first of March we will have just completed a wonderful Whooping Crane Festival event and a special thanks goes to Betty Workman for all her efforts to supply and man an information table for those attending that event in Port A. Also a "whooping" thank you to all who have volunteered to work the food booth and feed the many shoppers and lookers.
The 2nd Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper was a rollicking success. We even ran out of food, but the music provided by Ray Philen and associates was very entertaining. While I had to stay home sick, all the reports I heard were positive. Don't miss it next year!
Souper Bowl Sunday was super. We had 15 entries this year - all were tasty. Anyone want my Award Winning soup recipe???????
On Tuesday mornings four or five folks can be found in the Youth Room with music playing and candles glowing as the Island in the Son Tuesday Morning Prayer Geese take on the prayers you request on Sunday mornings and others we know of in our community, state, and world. Check out Alice Marks' article to find out more about us and come join us as we pray for God's discernment.
Confirmation is going well and our 8 confirmands, along with their mentors, have been very involved and present in worship and at other activities. The youth really add joy and spirit. Their present service project is collecting pocket change from worshipers each Sunday to aid in the Imagine No Malaria campaign. They are considering a mission trip this summer.
These are just a few of the many opportunities offered to help each of us grow in our faith. Check out the announcement loop before worship on Sunday mornings to find a place that matches your passion. Island in the Son is truly striving to live out its mission of being a place where all can come to meet, know and serve our Lord, Jesus Christ. Don't miss out -- join us as we spread the good news of grace and mercy.

Does Your Spiritual
Life Need a Boost?
If your spiritual life is in need of a boost, the Walk to Emmaus may be just the thing for you. The Walk is a 72-hour experience of singing, worshiping, praying, and participating in small groups. You will experience the love and grace of God through acts of service and prayer offered by a vital and loving support community.
The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, and places of work. Walks are sponsored by the Coastal Bend Emmaus Community, the largest Emmaus community in the world, and they are held locally.
Future 2010 women’s Walks begin on July 29 and October 7. Men’s Walks will begin April 29 and September 16. IITS
has scholarship funds available. If you are interested in the Walk, need an application, or have questions about the Walk, please contact Betty or Lowell Thomas (361-980-8544) or by e-mail at lvandblt @grandecom.net.
