ISLAM

How many different religions are there in the world?

• The followers of Islam are known as Muslims.

• Islam is an Arabic word meaning peace and submission.

• There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world.

ISLAM

• ABRAHAMIC – Relates to the Prophet Abraham.

• MONOTHEISTIC – Belief in One God.

ISLAM

• Belief in Allah as the one and only God.

• Belief in angels.

• Belief in the holy books ie. Bible, Torah, Qur’an

• Belief in the Prophets (special messengers). e.g. Adam, Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), Dawud (David), Isa (Jesus).

• Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final prophet.

• Belief in the Day of Judgement...

• Belief in Predestination... That God has already decided what will happen.

FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM

Shahadah (faith)Belief that God is One and Prophet Muhammad is the final messenger.

FIRST PILLAR:1

Siyam (fasting)

• Muslims fast so that they can feel closer to God. If you can control basic desires, you can concentrate on God.

• Siyam is the practice of fasting during the month of Ramadan.

SECOND PILLAR: 2

3THIRD PILLAR:Zakah(charity):

• It requires Muslims to give 2.5% of their disposable earnings to charity every year.

• Zakah purifies your wealth.

Salah (prayer):

FOURTH PILLAR:

•Muslims wash before they pray.

• They pray five times a day.

Hajj (Pilgrimage):

Fifth PILLAR: 5

• It is a special journey to holy places

• All Muslims must go on this journey at least once in their lives. However, if they are ill and unable, someone may take their place.

• It is a journey to get closer to God.
