[Fasting for] a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up]. And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] - a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]. And whoever volunteers excess - it is better for him. But to fast is best for you, if you only knew."
Hajj
• Muslims are required if they are able go and make pilgrimage in Mecca
• They must go once in their lives if they have chance or the money
• It focuses on visiting the Kaaba and walking around it seven times and join Muslims together to perform acts of worship to Allah or God
• This happens in the 12th month of the Islamic calendar Thul-Hijjah
• The Battle of Badr- The Battle of Badr was a huge turning point for the Muslims because it was the first major military win . It was between the Meccans and the Muslims, who were led by the Prophet Muhammad . They were outnumbered 3 to 1, yet still defeated the Quraysh which was one of the strongest tribes in Mecca at the time
• The Battle of Tours- The Battle of Tours was also a major turning point because it was the first defeat of the Muslims and it took place in Europe between the Muslims and the Frankish. The leader that led the Muslims was Emir Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi who later passed away during the war. The loss of this war prevented the spread of Islam to Europe.
Turning Points of Islam
• Many years after the death of Muhammad in 632 AD, a small group of Muslims formed their own political opinion on who should be the future leader of the Muslim nation: the Shia. However the Sunni is a majority of Muslims.
• When the Muslims moved their capital to Baghdad, Iraq in 750 AD, it sparked the Golden Age of Islam
• When the Muslims lost Baghdad to the Mongols in 1258, many Muslims were killed and that part of Iraq was destroyed
• The terrorist attacks on 9/11 in 2001 impacted the world’s view on Islam and created the word “Islamophobia”

Groups (Sects) in Islam
After Prophet Muhammed's death there was a debate on who the prophet had passed leadership to of the religion.
A group of people emerged whose political beliefs were that Prophet Muhammad's descendants should be the next leader of the Muslim nations
It was only until a few hundred years ago that they were named Shia
If a Muslim is not Shia then they are Sunni which is most of what Muslims are today. Sunnah means "the way of the Prophet" also meaning Following the way of Prophet Muhammad and companions
