Water, salt, copper, gold, chocolate Mixture a combination of two or more substances that can be physically separated Chemistry Chemistry Solute Substance dissolved in a solution Solvent a solid, liquid, or a gas that dissolves the solute Concentration measure of how much solute there is in a solution Chemistry Chemistry Dilute a less concentrated solution -contains less solute Saturated a solution that has as much solute as it can hold Supersaturated a solution that has too much solute and a high concentration Chemistry Chemistry 1.Do you think steel is a pure substance? 2.What is a key feature that would make salt water a mixture? 3.How can I make a mixture supersaturated? 4.What is a good example of a dilute solution? Chemistry Mixture Madness Materials: Beaker, Salt, Water, Triple Beam Balance, Spoon Measure mass of one spoonful of salt Pour 50 mL of water into beaker. Stir water and slowly put a little of the salt in the water until it cant hold any more. Measure the remaining salt that is left. Starting mass of salt remaining salt = amount of salt that the water can hold. Try again with hot water
