The year 1946-47 saw many former members of the loath In­fantry Battalion adapting them­selves to the routine at civ111an 11fe, gett1ng marr1ed, hav1ng add1t1ons to the1r fam111es and tak1ng part 1n community act1v1-t1es.

L1ke the Oahu and Mau1 Chap­ters, the Hawa11 Chapter on the th1rd ann1versary of the day wollen t;n, 100th Infantry Battalion underwent f1rst bapt1sm of bat­tle 1n Southern Italy - Septem­ber 29, 1943, held 1t's Memor1al Serv1ce honor1ng fallen comrades kt the Church of the Holy Cross 1n H110. The serv1ce was well attended by the gold-star pa­rents, veterans, and fr1ends of the Club 100.

wa11 Chapter during the year 1946-47 were: ~kao M18ao, Pres-1dent; Susumu Hata, V1ce-pres1-dent; James S. Maeda, Secretary; Takao J. Yamauch1, Treasurer, and Kazuma H1sanaga, D1rector. Cha1rmen of the var10us comm1t­tees were: Tatsum1 Yamamoto, house comm1ttee; Shlgeru Ush1J1-ma, mutual ass1stance comm1ttee; Kazuma H1sanaga, pub11c re1at10n comm1ttee; and Takao Yamauchi, membersh1p and dues comm1ttee. While our chapter pres1dent, Ta­kao M1yao was attend1ng sohoo1 1n Honolulu under the GI B111 of Rights dur1ng the year, Susumu Hata, V1ce-pres1dent, acted as our pres1dent.

The Board of Directors, see­ing the need of a welfare fund to help members, adopted a poli­cy whereby the Club would extend to members and their immediate families financial aid in times of hardshlps and emergencies in­volving deaths, childbirths, ill­nesses and injuries. Plans for the forthcoming ChaplaIn Yost visit In September were also formulated.

Election of officers for the 1947-1948 fiscal year on Wednes­day, June 4, climaxed a most successful year of activities in the Club's history.

The officers who headed the organ1zation dur1ng the pas t twelve months were:

Dur1ng the year, the member­,ship averaged 115. Every means were made to maintain a complete up-t>the-minute roster, and mem­bers were asked to inform the secretary of changes1n addresses rut cnq a few complied and, conse­quently, the memberShip list is quite incomplete.

Our major problem was to get the Ireplacement men' who are eligiple for membersbip to at­tend our meetings and partioi­pate in our activities.

One of the most heartening things to happen during the year was the almost unbe11evaOle co­operation shown by the member­ship at our shaved ice conces­s10n during the Llons Club Cir­cus 1n December.

The year's activities follow in brief:

JULV In July, a donation of $25

was made to the YEA Old Men's Home project.

Initiation of a project to give periodic gifts to veteran

patients at the Kula Sanitori~ These gifts will be given t~ times a year and will be gi~ on Activation Day, June 9, K~ rial Services Day, Septem 18r ., and at Christmas.

Another proj ect wh1.ch waa ap­proved and started was the aa~ 'ing of aloha and best wiabM gifts to members, fathers, mo~ era, wives, and children of .~ bers who are confined to till hospital for more than ~ days.

The third project initla~ in July was the sending at flol'll contrirutions to families of a. ceased veterans on the anniY~ saryaf their passing. Thia pro­ject bas been kept up with ..u appreciation shown by the DId of kin.

For the annual convention 1D Honolulu, our branch sent ~ following men as delegates: Ar­thur Shinyama, Stanley Masumow, Johnny Miyagawa, and Shinobu to­fukuji.

To par­t1cipate in this league as play­er, one must meet the require­ment of 35 years or older, but in the case of veterans, their war disabiU ties .have been taken into consideration. The red Jersey Veterans Team sponsored by Y. Hatals Club Shoyu (no vino) and managed by Susumu Hata con­sist of the following! Francis Takemoto, Yoshio Yanagawa, Ta­rush Yamamoto, Joe Yamauchi , Toshiaki Ito, James Maeda, and t41 tsuo Yabata. WORD has been received that Pete Oshima, formerly of Co. A, was recently awarded the blue ribbon for his painting at Grin­nell College, Iowa. The prize winning picture showed a GI in k fox hole and is now the property of the Grinnel College.
