Dear Guests
Welcome to the Festival of Achievement for 2012.
Striving for excellence in all areas of school life is the cornerstone of the educational philosophy at The British School of Kuwait (BSK).
Evidence for academic excellence is found in the outstanding public examination results at GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A levels. More evidence still is found in the list of world-famous universities to which our students gain admission, among them Oxford and Cambridge in England; Harvard and Stanford in the USA and many, many more.
Evidence for sporting excellence is found in the many, recently awarded, trophies and cups adorning our display cabinets. In recent years, BSK has dominated the finals in competitions organized by KFSAC and ISACK and our participation extends beyond the borders of Kuwait.
Evidence for excellence in the creative arts can be viewed in the award-winning work of our artists, ceramicists, photographers and graphic designers in numerous, recent, national competitions. Our thespians have created, year upon year, sell-out productions; most recently with productions of ‘Blood Brothers’, ‘Oliver’ and ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Our musicians are in demand by Embassies and event producers throughout Kuwait and overseas. Evidence for excellence in music is to be found in the many international competitions won by our students and the admission of our students into leading conservatoires.
Of course, statistically, all schools will have, from time-to-time, some outstanding students. The philosophy of BSK is to enable ALL students to be academically outstanding, ALL students to participate in sports as a life-long mission and ALL students to be artistically creative by insisting that ALL students create visual art, perform on stage and play numerous musical instruments.
Our philosophy extends to the provision of excellent extracurricular opportunities for our students. BSK offers the widest range of extra-curricular opportunities of any school. From the International Award to Robotics; from World-class debating to Model United Nations; from LAMDA to ABRSM courses; from horse-riding to scuba-diving; from skiing to martial arts … the opportunities seem endless and provide evidence of our commitment to roundedness in the education of our students.
Social awareness through links with the international community is deeply embedded within the ethos of BSK. We benefit hugely from the cultures and experiences of upwards of 70 different nationalities of students. Through the links with the Goethe Institute in Germany, the British Council, the service work of the International Award and from the response of our School Council and Charities Committee to support the Bayt Abdullah Children’s Hospice and the Japanese Appeal, the evidence for excellence in personal and social education is clear. Not all students and their families are ready to take advantage of the education on offer at BSK. We have a strict admissions policy that ensures our students are academically capable, highly motivated and well behaved. However, for students that do gain admission to BSK, the environment for learning is designed to meet our aim of rigorous, rounded and relevant education.
