ATTACK ON PEARL HARBORBy Evangelist Dan Manka

Friday, December 7th is the 71st anniversary of the treacherous sneakattack on Pearl Harbor. Amazingly, one can still find men today whowere there to witness that attack. A few months ago I interviewed aformer soldier, name Francis, who had just arrived at Scoffield Bar-racks some miles away from Pearl. He and his comrades could notonly see the Japanese planes flying over Scoffield Airfield, but theycould look off in the distance and see the planes that were attackingour battleship row in Pearl Harbor. Francis told me that there wereabout 200 soldiers standing in line with him for breakfast when theplanes came in to bomb and strafe their airfield. He said, “We juststood there and gaped.” They did not have sense enough to run forcover. You know how it is when there is a line-up - nobody is willing tolose their place in line. They all wanted to get their pancakes! Eventhough they could see the markings on the planes, Francis and hisbuddies did not realize at first that the planes really were Japanese.

How foolish it seems now to think that they did not know they werebeing attacked. How odd that all they could think about was getting tothe door before some of the other men so they would get their chowfirst.

Sometimes we, too, are foolish enough to not realize the danger thathas come upon us. Sometimes we foolishly hang on to earthly thingsthat really do not matter in the light of the big eternal things of thefuture. II Peter tells us, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adver-sary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he maydevour.” Unfortunately weusually do not realize thatSatan desires to attack us.He is a real, unseen enemywho is usually overlookedand ignored. Many timeswe are so busy about theearthly things around usand we fail to rememberthat we are in a spiritualbattle.
