Year 10 Students Mildura Senior College staff came out last Wednesday 22nd October to assist students in completing their 2015 subject selection forms. Cake Decorating Success Our Year 10 Cake Decorators have had great success at the Annual Mildura Show. Students have been making and decorating fruit cakes from scratch, learning varying skills and techniques to create their individual masterpieces. It has been a lengthy process and much pride was taken in the end results. We had two classes who produced a spectacular show of colour and skill. We had 13 students enter their cakes in the Show. Congratulations go to Georgia Pettet 1st, Jasmine Kontrec 2nd and Shannon and Molly Jenkins = 3rd. In the Novelty section, Courtney Nesci 2nd and Eliza Searle 3rd.

Well done to all of the students for all of their hard work. Mrs Pongraz and Mrs Impey.

Loddon Mallee Region Junior Basketball championships were held at Bendigo on Friday 24th October 2014. Our all-star basketball team of Angus Cole, Connor Irwin, Dre Kirby, Deklan Loveridge, Riley Mathews Connor Mensch, Ricky Newey and Joel Trevaskis as well as our super coach Mitch Undy left Mildura at 4.50 am for the trip to Bendigo to take on the other regional winners for a day of head to head basketball. Our team performed very well during the day winning games against Mackillop College and Charlton College. We fell just short in our other 3 games but put up a fantastic fight in all 3 games. The boys are to be congratulated on the way they conducted themselves during the day. They took all games on at a flat out pace and had a smile on their faces all day. Voted our best

player for the day was dynamic Deklan Loveridge. A big thank you to our coach Mr Mitch Undy for his cool and calm approach during the tournament. We would also like to thank Phil Newey for scoring all our games and the other parents who made the trip and cheered our boys all day. Kel Horkings

Intermediate Cricket Report On Wednesday the 22nd of October the Year 9 and 10’s ventured down to the “Old Aero Ovals” to contest the T20 Blast competition for all schools in our area. It was a sultry day with the mercury pushing up past the 36 degree mark, making conditions challenging to say the least. It was a fiercely contested day with all teams trying their best. It was great to see that sportsmanship and friendly competition were a focus of all the teams and everyone had a great day. The results were: Game 1: Chaffey defeated ISC - 115 to 100 Game 2 ISC defeated Robinvale - 181 to 98 Game 3: Merbein defeated ISC- 78 to 57 Game 4: ISC defeated Red Cliffs-110 to 79 The team members were: Jake Barker 9A, Nathan Turley 9E, Bryce Thomas 9A, Kwan Kinnersly 9A, Lachlan Rowett 10D, Dom Price 10F, Brayden Phipps 10F, Lewis Fisher 9B, Thomas Moore 9A and Brodie Jackson 10G. Year 9/10 Girls Cricket On Wednesday the 22nd of October 10 girls from a mixture of years 9 and 10 travelled to the Aerodrome Ovals full of excitement and enthusiasm. Their first game was against Coomealla and the girls came out all guns blazing taking wickets and making plenty of runs, however some sideline cheering from the girls wasn’t enough to get them over the line. The girls’ next game was against Red Cliffs Secondary where unfortunately they again lost in a very close scoring game. Their final game was against St Joseph’s College in a playoff for 5th and 6th position. This was by far the best game the girls’ played, which showed their improvement as the day went on, however a few big hitters from the opposition were just a bit too much for our girls. Although the results didn’t go their way, all the girls had fun and great team work and spirit was shown. ISC vs Coomealla Best Player: Alex Bacon. ISC vs RCSC Best Player: Marianne Fiorillo ISC vs St Joseph’s Best Player: Leah Geering Tyson McLean Coach --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Year 7/8 Interschool Cricket On Wednesday 22nd October the year 7/8 girls interschool cricket team headed to Aero Ovals to compete in a super 8’s round robin tournament against the other schools in the region. The girls were super compeitive in all their matches and improved as the day went on as they adjusted to the format of the game. Their first match saw a 4 run win over Merbein P-10 College with Kendall McLean and Tarsha Hawley leading the way with the bat. Next ISC took care of Red Cliffs Secondary College with a 52 run win thanks to Emma Martin smashing the ball around the field and Jessemy Thornton and Bethany Curran taking some vital wickets. The third game of the day resulted in the teams first loss to the hands of St. Joseph’s College by 29 runs. The game came down to the final two overs, where SJC managed to take two wickets and restrict ISC scoring ability. The final two games of the day resulted in a confident win against Coomealla High and a narrow 2 run victory against Trinity Lutheran College, Courtney Ransome and Aleisha Schreiber scoring impressive runs in both games. The girls are to be commended on their overall effort, behaviour and sportsmanship while representing the college.

SSV (STATE) Athletics Championships

Following their success at the Loddon Mallee Regional Athletics, Mebal Kadian, Lochlan Lloyd, Brodie Jackson, Kurt Kerr, Lachlan Monaghan, Kelly Rayner and Alex Bacon (all pictured below following the boys relay run), competed at the State championships at the Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park on Friday 17th October. We travelled down the night before, together with students and staff from Red Cliffs S.C. and 1 student from St Joseph’s College. We stayed at Bendigo overnight before travelling down to Melbourne for the first event on Friday morning. Mebal was our first competitor at 10:30am and while not performing at her best, still threw a very credible 29.80m to come 5th in the 15 Yrs Girls Discus. In Mebal’s Discus event, the winner broke the record by over 3 metres with a massive throw of 43.32m. Lochlan also did not perform to his best, but still ran a very good time of 1:03.65 in the Boys 13 Yrs 400m. The winner of his event also broke the record with a time of 55:10 seconds. Alex was our next competitor and ran a very structured and controlled race in the 16 Yrs girls 1500m to come in 5th with a time of 5:21.42. The winner ran an excellent time of 4:52.62, while 2nd, 3rd and 4th place getters ran around the 5:12 mark, so she wasn't too far off the pace. Our last event was the Boys 16 Yrs 4 X 100m relay at 6:15pm. After a long day of waiting and sitting around, our boys were keen to perform, and perform they did. With excellent changeovers, and a fighting spirit, the boys fought off a strong finish from Balwyn High School to claim 3rd place and win themselves a bronze medal behind first place Frankston H.S who also broke the record by nearly 2 seconds! The bronze medal is a wonderful achievement and one the boys were and still are extremely proud of. We then made the arduous return to Irymple arriving home at 2:00am, all tired but well satisfied with our efforts. All competitors must be congratulated for their performances on the day, they were certainly up against some formidable competition, but acquitted themselves very well. Congratulations to all 7 competitors to qualify and perform so well at the State Titles. Thanks also to parent Sarah Jackson for her assistance and support on the trip.

Irymple Secondary College – MOBILE TECHNOLOGY POLICY 2014 –

This Policy will be implemented as of Monday 3rd November

PURPOSE:

Mobile Technology (eg. mobile phones, iPods) is increasingly a part of our 21st century lifestyles. As such, members of our school community will own and use these devices. As for all tools, they have a purpose and value, but can also be used inappropriately. The purpose of this policy is to clarify the use of these technologies in our school setting so that they are used for positive purposes and not as a disruption or distraction to learning.

AIM:

The aim of this policy is to recognise the importance of mobile technology in society and to support the positive use of mobile technology in learning.

Protocols:

The school does not take any responsibility for the loss or damage to mobile technology brought to school.

Mobile phones are not to be used during class time unless specifically directed to do so by the teacher. Appropriate use during recess and lunch is accepted.

Mobile technology should only be used in a classroom for educational purposes under the direction of the classroom teacher.

All mobile technology use should have a volume set which does not disturb others and enables the user to still hear the human voice.

All students and parents are encouraged to participate in “Cybersafety” information sessions as offered periodically by the college. Students are expected to adhere to the Student User Agreement presented at these forums.

Mobile technology devices are to be placed in the “valuables tin” during PE classes for safe keeping.

Overnight excursions and camps – during an overnight excursion or camp it is expected that all mobile phones will be collected by the teachers in the evening to ensure that sleep is uninterrupted. The same protocols, procedures and expectations, as outlined in this policy, apply for students while on an excursion or camp, which will be left to the discretion of the teacher in charge.

Procedures for inappropriate use of mobile technology:

Issues of ‘cyberbullying’ or ‘the transmission of inappropriate materials’ will be dealt with seriously and if appropriate may be referred to the police.

Photos, audio or video footage must not be taken of another person without their expressed permission. Such issues may be referred to the police.

Irymple Secondary College MOBILE TECHNOLOGY expectations:

report to the Student Manager’s office where the device will be placed in a sealed envelope and locked in the phone cupboard for safe keeping. The device may be collected at the end of the school day.

o If a student has to hand in their device three times during the term, the student’s parent must collect the device from school.

o Teachers and staff are strongly encouraged not to confiscate mobile devices from students.
