The Georgia Fraternal Order of Police Foundation is a charitable corporation that operates under the 501 (c) (3) pro-visions of the federal tax code. This offi-cial designation granted by the Internal Revenue Service conveys tax-exempt status to the foundation and specifically allows contributions to be tax deduct-ible. Operating as a public tax-exempt charitable organization offers many ad-vantages to donors beyond the imme-diate benefit of being tax deductible. Contributors have added confidence in knowing that the organization governs and regulates itself through stringent by-laws that meet IRS standards for tax-exempt foundations. In addition, since the Georgia FOP Foundation is an organization comprised and oper-ated by law enforcement officers. Sup-porters recognize that they are helping sponsor programs and activities that are developed by individuals who truly understand the real need and purpose behind the foundation.
FOUNDATIONPURPOSE & GOALS
The Georgia FOP Foundation operates for the purpose of encouraging and promoting a greater understanding and better awareness by the public on issues affecting the law enforcement profession. To pursue this mission, the foundation will raise funds and provide financial support to charitable programs that address needs in the law enforcement community. Funds for the projects will be raised within the broad law enforcement community through independent contributions from FOP members and community fundraising events. In addition, dona-tions will be sought from individuals and corporations in the private sector. With strong participation from Geor-gia FOP members, the joint efforts of law enforcement and the private sector will combine to produce a highly suc-cessful foundation.
PROGRAMS & PROJECTS
THAT ARE ON THE HORIZON
• Establishing a fund to provide immediate financial assistance to families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty
• Creating a college scholarship program to help Georgia FOP members and their families face the rising cost of education
• Safety awareness programs for children that will provide the educational material and other resources needed to promote child safety and protection
FUTURE GROWTH
Other programs and projects will be added in the future as the foundation grows. The foundation’s by-laws were designed to meet the changing needs of law enforcement.
