Dr. Frederick A. Wright, Sr.An Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Reverend Frederick A. Wright Sr. is the son of the Reverend Abner Wright and the Rev. Cornelia Wright – the first woman in the United States to serve as a presiding elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The Reverend Frederick A. Wright earned a Master of Divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center as a Turner Seminary student in Atlanta, Georgia, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.

Dr. Wright has served his denomination as a member of the General Board, Chairperson of the Revision Committee for the 2008 and 2012 General Conferences, Chairperson of the Ohio-South Ohio Conference Finance Committee, Vice Chairperson of the Trustee Board of the Ohio-South Ohio Conference, and Dean of the Board of Examiners for ministerial students. He is also a Trustee Board Member of Turner Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia and an active preacher in Forest Park, Ohio

Dr. Wright has served as pastor in the states of Pennsylvania and Ohio. He is currently the pastor of Quinn Chapel A.M.E Church in Forest Park, Ohio. While in Pittsburgh, Dr. Wright served as the first African American chairperson of the East Liberty Development, Inc., redeveloping an entire business district. Also, he served as chaplain for the migrant ministry in northeast Pennsylvania. He is an international preacher and lecturer. He serves as an adjunct professor at Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio.

Dr. Wright is a life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He is married to Jennifer Dixon Wright and the father of two sons.

HEALTH CORNERSeptember is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a term used to describe a group of inherited blood disorders affecting the red blood cells. It is a life-long condition characterized by pain, anemia, and other serious health complications. Individuals with SCD make red blood cells that contains an abnormal hemoglobin “S.” This hemoglobin causes the red blood cells to form a “sickle” or crescent moon shape and become hard, sticky, and difficult to pass through small blood vessels. Although, millions of people worldwide are affected, the disease affects approximately 100,000 people in the United States, mostly African Americans. In Ohio, over 100 African-American babies are born each year with SCD. Annually in Ohio, Sickle Cell Sabbath is observed on the third weekend in September during National Sickle Cell Awareness Month.

TRANSPORTATION

PLEASE COME JOIN US FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL: If you need a ride, call Bro. Damon Woods, 937-304-5575 between 9am and 11am on Saturdays to reserve a seat on the church van.

CHURCH VAN PROCEDURES: Van use request forms must be submitted two weeks prior to the date of the event. A minimum of seven people are required in order to use the van/bus and the van can only be used for Wayman Chapel purposes. Donations for use are accepted. All drivers must successfully complete the required Driver Training Program. Anyone interested in being a driver, please contact Bro. Damon Woods at 304-5575.

KITCHEN REQUEST FORM: Members must fill out a Kitchen Request Form to use the kitchen. The forms are located outside of the treasurer’s office, bottom slot. Turn in the completed form to the church office and a kitchen committee person will call you. If your organization didn’t receive the Kitchen Guidelines, please see Peggy Wynn. Thank You!

DO NOT bring any FOOD or DRINKS into the sanctuary or overflow rooms. Food and beverages damage the carpet, leave unsightly spots, and ultimately ruin the appearance of our sanctuary. We appreciate your cooperation and together we can keep our church looking beautiful. Wayman Board of Trustees.
