INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) – Season 4

Take your positions and watch with abated breath as cricket frenzy nation’s most awaited 51 days extravaganza IPL unveils today. With the stake reaching its nadir, each team will try to prove its mettle on the field. The recent World Cup 2011 win by Indian cricket team has led to fever pitch expectations from IPL season 4.

IPL 2011 – Size increasing Indian Premier League (IPL) has entered season 4 and the euphoria is even higher after successful three series. This time ten teams will participate with two new additions and there will be 74 matches during 51 days. This will be a long marathon event with more number of matches that will require patience of players and cricket lovers too.

Change in format for IPL 2011

• Each team will play fourteen matches in all in the league stage. Despite the higher number of teams, the number of matches played by each team in league remains fourteen.

• Each team will not play every other team twice as it happened in IPL 2010. Each team will play with five teams twice, one at the home turf and another away. However, it will play with remaining four teams only once, of which two of these games will be played at the home turf and two away. Hence, each team will play fourteen league matches.

• Top four teams will get a chance to compete in the final stages of the game. After the league matches, the four teams will be ranked one, two, three four. Rank 1 and Rank 2 will play and the winner will qualify for the finals. The loser of this match will play the winner of other match between Rank 3 and Rank 4, which will decide the second team for the final match.

• There is no third and fourth position in IPL 2011. The third position will automatically be decided by the loser of the second qualifier for final.
