IPL Business Analysis Academy

High-quality training and mentoring, backed up by established frameworks and tools

Discover how we recruit and develop world-class business analysts

IPL’s Business Analysis Academy is where we train and develop our community of business analysts. As well as bringing on experienced individuals, we scour the UK’s top universities and higher education establishments to recruit the rising stars of the Business Analysis world.

A business analyst has responsibility for...• Investigating business situations

• Identifying ways to improve business systems

• Evaluating each of these options

• Defining the requirements for the selected option

• Representing the business interest during delivery and acceptance

We have a long-established Business Analysis practice, which forms part of our successful and vibrant Consultancy division.

How the IPL Academy works

Introducing the IPL Business Analysis AcademyThese talented individuals then go through our three-year graduate programme, which blends training, mentoring and real-world Business Analysis assignments, leading to recognised British Computer Society (BCS) certifications at Foundation, Practitioner and Diploma levels. Experienced analysts follow a fast-track route through the Academy.

Once they graduate from the Academy, business analysts join our established Business Analysis practice.

Overseen by an experienced team of senior analysts from our Business Analysis practice, our Academy teaches graduates and experienced staff the skills they’ll need to become world-class analysts.

The Academy sees staff at all levels working towards recognised certifications, such as BCS Practitioner, BCS International Diploma, TOGAF, Six-Sigma and Lean. Staff will be trained in the use of the reusable methods and tools from our Business Analysis practice. All our work is underpinned by rigorous governance.

IPL Business Analysis Academy

Our three-year graduate scheme gives our analysts real-world experience alongside high-quality training, all of which guides them towards their Practitioner-level certification and graduation from the Academy

We run carefully refined inductions for those joining our Academy, whether as a graduate or as an experienced professional.

They’ll learn about IPL’s approaches to requirements elicitation, analysis and specification, business process modelling and cost-benefit analysis. We’ll also teach them everything they need to know about business case development and change management.

Experienced analysts will then move directly on to a client project, while graduates and existing IPL staff making the transition to being business analysts will learn vital soft skills. These include effective stakeholder management, how to deliver compelling presentations, running productive workshops and managing conflict.

With the induction complete, this group will then work on a number of client projects as they move through our three-year Academy programme, overseen by an experienced mentor from our Business Analysis practice.

The key benefits of IPL’s Business Analysis Academy

IPL’s analyst’s ability to understand new business areas is second to none, and his progression from ‘new joiner’ to ‘subject matter expert’ has been phenomenally quick. What makes him stand out is his commitment to leave no stone unturned, and to continue to challenge his own work to ensure that potential gaps are filled and the full end-to-end solution is robust

Case study

Helping Nationwide comply with new mortgage regulationNationwide has been making significant changes to its contact centres, to facilitate advised mortgage sales through this channel. This is necessary to comply with new regulation.

A senior IPL business analyst has been working through the detail of the target operating model to define the roles and responsibilities of the new contact centre agents. This has involved working with stakeholders across Nationwide to ensure the new model is in place when the new regulation comes into force.
